I used to do that when I was in junior high and high school. I was never a friendly person and lost many opportunities to becomes friends with many good people. I regret that now, because I don't have any friends. They still remember me as THE MEAN KID... :(

I've avoided a few Paki guys trying to be friends with me back at school simply because I'm really shy and self-conscious around Desi guys.
It’s not due to arrogance, not because I don’t consider them worthy of being my friend, it’s actually the exact opposite.
Around white people I can make a complete tit of myself and not care what they think, probably why I've had more white friends in my life, but I get really quite and reserved around Paki guys in case I embarrass myself.

So, have you ever had the experience of someone coming up to you, making an attempt to become friends, and you somehow might not have been nice to them, or you were rude to them, or you basically told them that you don't have time to talk to them, or you don't want to talk to them, or maybe you just ignored them and walked away?
