OK guys, the power has gone out (tree must’ve fallen on a power line). How do make my android act as a hotspot for my laptop? What it this called? Tethering? How do I do it?
Re: Making a phone a hotspot
Only thing with Open Garden is that you need to install the app on both devices. SO if you don't have power, you don't have access to the app yet. You can use FoxFii in the meanwhile which you need just on your phone. Download that from the Google Play store and it's very easy to use. Once you have the Internet running on your lappy, install Open Garden and use that for future tethering. It has more options than FoxFii and way more smoother.
Am I right Tofi?
Re: Making a phone a hotspot
if you had an iphone, the tree would never have fallen. this note is so big, its gravitational field pulls down all kinds of stuff. :\

If all the raindrops were iPhones and iPads,
Oh what a rain that would be.
Standing outside with my arms open wide.
Ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh.

Yes, but my fiance's iPhone with its much-vaunted aluminum case should've held up the tree, no?
Another iPhone myth bites the dust.
OK ill download that app...
Re: Making a phone a hotspot
FoxFi doesnt work with JellyBean, unfortunately

Its not the size that matters in this case. The loveliness of the phone is such that the tree was trying to see the user use the device and it tripped on the wire and fell. :p
Re: Making a phone a hotspot
I use foxfi and it works perfectly! Recently though it has started giving me a time limit.
I think I will have to buy it or get open garden. I should try that next time.
queerio stop being a meanie!
aurchaepiyo doesn’t have JellyBean.

Any such apps for iphones? ![]()
Re: Making a phone a hotspot
Foxfi is blocked or something by ATT. (Power was only off for 3 hours). If I go to the settings menu, I can find the right things to click, except ATT wants more money to be able to use my device as a hotspot. Phooey. Maybe I can just tether with a USB cord next time – I found this video:
Be Ready: How to: Tether your laptop to your Android Phone
So next time this happens…
Re: Making a phone a hotspot
hmm well my provider also has tethering blocked but i can still use foxfi. I just turn on foxfi and click on activate wifi hotspot and it takes about 10 seconds to turn on. You will see the blue foxfi icon on top left. You don't need to turn on tethering and portable hotspot from your phone settings - but wifi has to be turned on so the signal can be shared via wifi.
The link you posted would work if your provider had tethering enabled on your account and like you said you would have to pay extra for that.
I will try to post some screen shots for you.
Re: Making a phone a hotspot
For the next time, install Open Garden on all your devices. Your phone will automatically recognize the devices when needed later.

Here are my screen shots!

I am assuming you can get it on a tablet and connect phone with a tablet. I know silly question. ![]()
Re: Making a phone a hotspot
Sorry I don’t know of any. I’m hoping our resident techs would.
Re: Making a phone a hotspot
Yes you can connect it to tablets and laptops.
There is an iPhone tethering app called Tether. It's Windows and Mac compatible. Free. Also, there's one called MyWi that we've used. Not that great though.
Re: Making a phone a hotspot
^^ It goes without saying that your iPhone needs to be jailbroken.
Making a phone a hotspot
Hey thanks, will check it out :)
This its why you need to root your phone...
My moto has it built in the Rom. Used it with nexus 7 no problem.
If a tree were to fall would any hear it? Yes, the crushed fanbois waiting patiently in line would!:D
Sorry couldn't resist
