Dear guppies,
A question I wanted to ask is that if make up was bought now such at eyeshadows and was not used until 8-9 months later, would it still be ok to be used…?
Thanks xx
Re: make up - use by date...
if it's a powder one that it should be ok. but if its cream or liquid check to see if it's separating, or smell bad.
but i really don't think it can go back in 8-9 months
Re: make up - use by date...
It should be ok but do a little test patch on yourself before using it properly.
Re: make up - use by date...
^ How do u get to know that its expired or sumthin?
Re: make up - use by date…
Most cosmetic products have a little symbol on the back, like this - the number in the image symbolises the number of months that that product is suitable for use.
Re: make up - use by date...
Ok guys this is what I found on geniusbeauty.com
Eye Shadows Keeping
Eye shadows **can be kept for a year (some a little bit longer) on conditions that you carefully look after the condition of the brushes, applicators, and sponges. You should wash them at least once a week, or if you are too lazy for that you should better periodically buy new ones.
**Mascara Keeping
Mascara **can be used for 3 to 5 months; it quickly goes bad due to the frequent contact with air and the eyelashes, but when not used often it simply dries out and should not be diluted.
**Powder, Lipstick and Rouge Keeping
Compact and friable powder, as well as dry rouge, “live” for 12 to 18 months; oily rouge and eye liner can be used no more than a year, lipstick and lip gloss – no more than a year and a half.
Eyeliners and Lipliners
Eyeliners and lipliners, as well as deodorants, can be kept for three years.
General Makeup Keeping Tips
Makeup **should be kept as far as possible from the sources of heat, cold, and moisture; **keep **it also away from sunlight. Thereat bathroom is not a good place to keep makeup and perfumery. Bathroom is a good place for keeping soaps, shower gels, and shampoos; but it is not recommended to keep them on an open shelf, better store them in a closable cabinet. Note that shelf life for those products is usually no longer than a year.
**Note the Date
When you open some new makeup make sure to write the date when you open it on the package. This way you will know for sure how much longer you can use the substance, nevertheless, you should not wait till it obviously goes bad.
Expired Makeup
Keep your make up as long as the expiry date permits, keep it in perfect condition, and do not use expired products – this way your skin will remain **healthy **and **beautiful **for years.
Re: make up - use by date...
This is what bellaonline.com says:
Do you have cosmetics in a drawer that you have owned forever? Can you remember when you last bought mascara? Using old or expired cosmetics can lead to bacterial infections and other health problems. Over time, cosmetics develop yeast, fungi, and bacteria growth on their surface. These are transferred to your skin anytime you apply your makeup. This guide will help you to determine how long to keep each piece of your cosmetic collection.
Foundation:This product usually only lasts a year. It is probably one of the ones you replace most often, since many people use it daily. If you notice any changes in color or consistency before a year, throw the remainder away.
Lipstick:This product is one of the longest lasting ones. Most lipsticks will last two or three years before they need to be replaced. A sure sign that you have had your lipstick too long is when it starts to smell bad.
Mascara:This product needs to be replaced every three to six months. Since it is applied to one of the most sensitive areas of your face, it is important to make sure that it clean and sanitary.
Eye and Lip Pencils:Pencils easily last three years. The best way to ensure that they remain safe to apply is to keep them well sharpened and store them with the cap on.
Powder, Blush, and Eye Shadow Compacts: These products last for two to three years. Always use a brush instead of your fingers to apply them. If you notice a color change, then it is time to buy a new compact.
Nail Polish:This product lasts for about two years. Shake before applying to mix the pigment that has separated. If you find that shaking does fully mix the product, it is time to purchase a new bottle.
Never share your makeup with anyone else, since bacteria from their face is then transferred to yours. Use makeup brushes instead of your finger to apply makeup, since you finger has bacteria on it that can be transferred to both your face and the makeup container. Storing your makeup in a cool, dry place (not in the bathroom) will help them last longer. Finally, if you notice any differences in the way your cosmetics looks, smell, or feel replace them.
Re: make up - use by date...
