The current make up of U.N. is totally inadequate to solve international problems. The present form of U.N. has become the personal property of five nations holding the veto power and one of the country (U.S.) constantly abuses this veto power to complicate the international issues. The future make up of U.N. should have representation from Africa, Middle East and South Asea. This can be done in a truely democratic way. Every human being on this planet irrespective of his or her citizenship should have equal vote power in this forum and accordingly the countries with large population should have more say on international issues. Every country should be given power in the U.N. according to its population. This will make the U.N. a truly democratic forum and would give fair representation to every region of the world. The present form of U.N. is another form of slavery and imperialism and supremacy by certain sections. None of the non veto power country should accept such second class treatment.
How many of you do agree with my idea? I would really welcome further suggestions about this subject.
People who are at the bottom of intellect cannot "demand" anything. They must work for their place in the world. Just having more babies is not going to give them more power in the world. Brains are necessary too.
If this logic is extended to America then Bush doesn't deserve to be an American president. The intellectual capacity of Bush is well known and is a freqent talk in the media. Today's Indian President and Indian Prime Minister are great intellectuals while American President is one of the most dumb person the world has ever seen in recent times.
I have been to America seven times and I know the average intellectual capacity of average Americans. They just don't know anything. Average Indian is no less than average American as far as smartness is concerned despite having less education. I have closely observed while working with American technicians and they are no way superior to Indian technicians. (Yes Arab techinicians are definitely dumb). But Indians are as intelligent or rather more intelligent than average Americans.

But I somewhat agree with your initial post as well regarding democractic rights (not so with the population dynamics) but antiobl brings up valid points as well. UN does do good work when it comes to humanitarian crises however it is the nations( that you have a gripe with) that are the major contributers to humanitarian aid. When it comes to security council.....rightfully so...you'll need to read the history to see how UN/league of nations came about...its all about victor nations...dominant nations; nations that contribute and mean no harm, but the regional/religious conflicts of other nations envelope the securuty council nations and then we are called the bad guys. We are good people, we come in peace and mean no harm.

As regards all of you kids picking on Ohioguy, I like what OhioGuy has to say. He brings a different perspective to the discussion. You may not agree or want to hear/read what he has to say but his views reflect what lot of Norht Americans think. Learn to argue, debate your views, because guess what kiddes: that's what awaits you out in the real world!
i think that only with the abolition of nation states will we get rid of the financial system that has come to govern the states as well as its policies.
I wouldn’t challenge “intellectual” capacity of average Americans, you can challenge “knowledge” as much as you want. There is difference in “intellect” and “knowledge”. Americans don’t look outside their world, to them America is the world, same is true for many of our own “Pakistanis”.
lets not get into nation bashing, bash any “leader” you want if it can contribute to the topic at hand.
I am really sorry for my comments about America and apologize if I have hurt anybody by my comments. But my intention was not to hurt the Americans but to bring out a point that people in south Asea (India and Pakistan) are equally intelligent and no less than Americans. This is my personal observation. I have found common Americans to be very nice, helpful and warm people and I have no complaint from American citizens. My hatred is against the custom officials. But I am a very small person. Even an Indian Defence minister (Jeorge Fernandese a cabinet minister in the Indian govt) was mistreated three years back by American customs. It's another thing that American ambassador in India later apologized for the American custom people's behaviour.
Henceforth I would be extremely cautious while making comments. I really don't want to hurt anybody's feelings. I think I really need to improve my writing skills. Thanks Ohioguy for making me realize this.
The UN...a long time ago became redundant...people still believe in its capacity...especially the muslim countries with the exception of Iran...I wonder what they are seeking there... :D
Ahhhhhh. It's been a long time, but I suppose better late than never is good enough.
Getting back to the topic regarding the U.N. Yes, the current UN is totally ineffective and should be replaced. This Organisation still lives in a timewarp and can be classed as a 'toothless dog. All bark and no bite'. The only thing this UN body can do is make up a resolution to condemn and then go back to taking backhanders, attending lavish dinners & ceremonies and playing golf. What good is condemnation, when real lives are being lost and real threats being made.
How should it be replaced? Seeing the current state of affairs. I really couldn't care less!
