Make Up - Novice Need help pls...

Hi all,

I am basically very crap at this whole make up malarky so I need help. I have browsed the forum and see alot of you are very helpful and seem to know alot (well compared to me) I have never been much in to make up it never interested me but I do need to start doing something as I feel so stupid, I don’t have many girl mates or relatives to help so I am at a loss.

To give you a brief inkling…I have been to mac and they recommended i have the foundation nc25 and I also have dark circles under my eyes and i was told to use NW25 sculpt fix. I can never get the blending right it just looks stupid :frowning:

I seriously need help from the very beginning please can someone help? also if there is one or two suitable videos showing how make up should be applied that people recommend that would be great since theres so many videos I have got confused.

i will be starting from scratch with what I should get or what is recommended, reasonable priced make up please but if the expensive brand is much better then I’d rather get that. Whenever I go to make up counters they must see me coming as they tend to sell me all sorts…not good. I am based in the UK.

Any help appreciated xx

Re: Make Up - Novice Need help pls...

lord i wish i could help you, i'm one of those novices too since before all i used to put on was corrector, lip color and eye makeup. but now that i did a lot of research online and on GS i've found the perfect light cream foundation for myself and the perfect translucent face powder where nothing looks madeup and cakey which was the whole reason i hated makeup before but i guess GS converted me

i'm hoping others that have more knowledge will chime in but i always though kandee johnson's videos were pretty cool, i just discovered her videos a few weeks back.........let me find the one i liked and then i'll post it

I personally hate MAC foundations except the Face & Body. We're about the same skin tone and I use C2 in F&B, you can try C2 or C3. Basically, it's a light foundation but buildable so you can add one more layer for fuller coverage. It's my favorite foundation. It's water-based so it's extremely light and you apply it with your fingers. For concealer, I prefer Bobbi Brown's corrector. I use the shade Light Peach and I think that might work for you also. Another concealer I love from the highstreet is Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection concealer, comes in a small tube w/ a doe foot applicator, you should apply that if you want more coverage.

Essentially you could just use the Bobbi Brown Corrector by itself. For powder, I love loose powders applied with a puff. You can also use a pressed powder applied with a brush like MAC's 109 or 129. The powders I love are Laura Mercier Loose Translucent Powder (I apply this with a puff over concealer and under eyes), MAC's Mineralized Skinfinish Natural (I'm the same skin as you but in the winter I'm NC20) so I use Light-Medium and I think it'll be great for you too, and Sleek Luminous Pressed Powder shade #1 is also great.

Just make sure you get a 2-3 brushes to help you. If you exchange the foundations, you wont need a foundation brush. I apply concealer under my eyes using my fingers as well but you may want to get a small tiny brush like Laura Mercier's Secret Camouflage brush for concealing blemishes and spots. And of course, 1 brush to apply powder with. I really like the 109 but the ELF Powder Brush (it's a flat top) works AMAZING for pressed powders. If you get a loose powder (like the Laura Mercier or SUQQU one) a puff (Laura Mercier makes a puff as well) will be excellent. Just remember to always work in thin and small layers.

Lisa Eldridge, Pixiwoo, TiffanyD and MissChevious are all great youtubers to watch.
