Make up mysteries - help!!

For me makeup is Lipstick! and I am stuck with this list of makeup stuff i was asked by someone in Pak to get for her…

I am horrified by how much all this costs not to mention I dont understand half of what is mentioned in the list…anyways one of the things is a Bare Mineral Essential Kit (hope i got it right)..Can someone tell me what it is and which company is it from?

Also face powders and blushers weren’t confusing enough that they’ve invented a ‘face shiner’!?! WTH is it?? any tips to buy this thing??

Thanks in adv..

Sephora: Bare Escentuals Sephora Exclusive Get Started Kit - Dark ($174 VALUE for $60): Combination Sets

Re: Make up mysteries - help!!

Hey thanks a lot Pink..thats actually not too much considering all the other Dior and what not items in the list..a simple eyeshade kit from Dior costs more than that..

One more question, (dumb alert!) ..This Essential/Esentual thing, is it something available from diff brands or should I look for it in the Sephora counter?( I am confused by googling it.)

Re: Make up mysteries - help!!

nothing is dumb!
Bare Mineral Essential is a brand on its own i think nd u cang this from most of the makeup store.. i found a deal for u.. ulta has a 20% on makeup so u get this for $48
Ulta.com - Cosmetics, Fragrance, Salon and Beauty Gifts

nd make sure u pick the right complexion for her

btw if u dun mind askin who is this demandin all these things DIOR wtf? how does she abt all this??

I think a “face shiner” is like an illuminator or a highlighter, which is supposed to make your face look dewy/glowy. I’ve heard MAC has created an illuminator known as strobe cream/liquid that gives western and desi celebs like Kareena Kapoor that dewy glowing look. Hmm, sounds interesting. Think I might try it out.

I’ve tried the Bare Minerals kit, but it didn’t suit me. It comes with the foundation powder, warmth powder (blush), and the mineral veil. I know the mineral veil is what sets your makeup in place…and I’m guessing it illuminates/shines your face as well because according to the product description, the mineral veil is what is supposed to add the luminous finishing touch to your face and infuses a “softness and light.” And you don’t need to purchase the mineral veil separately as it comes in the starter kit. NOW if you want to buy bare mineral eyeshadows and lipsticks…those have to be purchased separately.

The kit comes in a variety of shades based on your skin tone. So, purchase one that will suit your friend’s skin color best. And if you both happen to be similar in skin tone, then try out the products at a beauty store such as Ulta or Sephora to see which shade works best for you. And then get that kit for your friend. Here’s a link below that will provide more info about the product line.

Re: Make up mysteries - help!!

I know you're not asking about this, but I don't think you should go off and spend so much money on makeup just because you were asked to buy this stuff.

My cousins in Pakistan sometimes make unreasonable requests and we do what we think is appropriate. In their defense, I don't think they realize just how expensive it is, or how hard we work to save and earn our money.

Recently my male cousin asked for a Rado watch. He's 23 and he wanted a model that was nicer than his own father wore! We got him the lowest model Movado and he actually loved it and appreciated it.

Also try The Cosmetics Store (they have these in a lot of outlet malls). It is like a brand name makeup closeout store (MAC, Bobbi Brown, Clinique, Estee Lauder - all the usual suspects). For around $15 The Cosmetics Store will have those sample sets with a makeup pouch. We buy them for all my younger cousins and if they end up liking a product or two, we send them a full size.

Don't stress yourself out over this! Also, take your list with you to Sephora and someone will be able to answer all your questions.

Re: Make up mysteries - help!!

Tks u guys..redvelvet there are MAC items on the list too..i'll check it out..

Pink thanks for the link..i m in Middle East so can't benefit from that unfortunately..its for a close relative so i cant even say no ..buri phassi..lolzz Contrary to popular belief paki ppl know a LOT from don't know what sources..internet maybe..apparently she knows a lot more than me..but that's also because of one's interests..

I agree with somehowcollide..most of the times ppl back home dont have any idea how much it costs..they think bahir walas can afford everything ..

I'll sure add some items from basic lines which are on lower end cost wise but still contain brand name to save myself some money.

Re: Make up mysteries - help!!

You can always tell her it was out of stock or they didn't have the colors she wanted.

I can't stand it when relatives send over a list as if we just announced a free shopping spree for them, uff!

Where in the Middle East, I'd love to help u out..but cosmetics here are VERY expensive.. a single lipstick by MAC is dhs. 60 and compact is dhs. 150 I think she means a radiance brush instead of a "face shiner" Red Earth has some and so does Bourjois and YSL but then again the brands are pretty expensive :)

Re: Make up mysteries - help!!

also check the duty free on your way to pakistan. i got these great perfume gift sets for about $40 each- they were little but not skimpy bottles of perfume, about 5 in a box and by company. so there were all 5 lancome perfumes in one package. and they had tons of variety and price points, for ladies and men.

Re: Make up mysteries - help!!

When we used to bring back gifts, we'd stock up at the wholesale stores downtown. There's just way to many ppl to bring quality, individual stuff for. Now since my parents live there, they hardly bring anything back. and i end up giving makeup that i buy once and rarely ever use (and this is pretty pricey stuff--well pricey for me). To their credit they don't ask or demand anything.

Re: Make up mysteries - help!!

lolz..shay considering how long the 'list' is , couple of those 'outtas (outta stock ,ran outta time ..;) will be needed

Gina I'm in Bahrain and that's what I thought, make up is more expensive in ME..I don't remember items that costly in UK or maybe that was a few years ago

Sara, normally for gift I do the same I stock up sale items, but this thing was a bit last minute and although its still the sale season here, there's hardly ANY sale on cosmetics... but anyway I'll manage something..

I'll ask the at the store for this face shiner thingie and let you guys in...

Re: Make up mysteries - help!!

STROBE cream from MAC is awesome! It's a must have...thanks Shay for suggesting it in another thread :-) I went out and bought it and everyone has been complimenting my complexion.

^ Strobe is my all-time fav too! MM just buy a cream-to-powder foundation and a radiance brush! Makeup in the ME is pretty expensive! Even companies like Red Earth, The Body Shop etc!

Yayyy :hugz:
Do you wear it alone or with foundation?

Gina, what’s radiance brush?

Shay it's an illuminator as well..reflects light and adds a nice glow to u're face. I like Revlon SkinLights :)

MAC has one called fairylite
Benefit has one called "High Beam"- supermodel in a bottle!
The Body Shop - Glow Enhancer

Re: Make up mysteries - help!!

I wear it with very light foundation. I apply the strobe cream after a moisturizer and then apply the liquid foundation (I hope that's what I'm supposed to do) . Also, I noticed that it really makes a difference in pictures :-)

Unfortunately, I have suffered from acne and it has left scars (which are now SLOWLY going away as I exfoliate with 'Angels on Bare Skin' from LUSH) so I can't wear the Strobe cream alone.

But honestly, it's freakin awesome! HUGS SHAY!

Re: Make up mysteries - help!!

for me a bit of chapstick or lip gloss, with some blush and eyeliner (MACs tarnished) and sometimes some mascara and im good to go!

Is that a single product? I have scared skin from acne and when I did try my hand at make-up, in my newly-wed days, I was over-whelmed by the amount of work, concealer+foundation+powder.

I wonder if there's ONE single thing that u can put on and it gives your skin a uniform look, saves all the trouble?

Re: Make up mysteries - help!!

What is Strobe cream?

How come I have not heard of this?

I want to look all dewy and purrty too...
