A question for all the makeup enthusiasts out there…
I have really learned alot about technique, application & product from reading all these threads by you lovely ladies, and want to start investing in good quality makeup brushes. I feel kind of dumb asking this, but how do you care for your brushes? Do you wash them after each use? Say for instense, brushes for eyeshadows..do you buy a seperate brush for each different color/product? That sounds like it could get expensive! Or do you just wipe clean and then use the same brush in another eyeshadow? Any tips from you seasoned veterans would be much appreciated!
I wash my brushes (deep clean) once a week, and spot clean usually after each use. I dont wear makeup everyday but if I used face brushes every single day I would def. wash these brushes after 2-3 uses and maybe spot clean inbetween. For deep-cleaning, I use this:
It’s extra gentle and also has a conditioner built in so my brushes feel uber-soft. For spot cleaning, I have a small spray bottle which I keep on my vanity. The spray I make is MAC’s Brush Cleanser diluted 1:1 with water. I just spray it either on the brush or a kleenex and wipe the brush until it’s free of product. It has alcohol in it so if you want to clean your eye brush, it’ll be dry in a 30-60 seconds so you can reuse the brush.
I wash my face brushes every 3-5 days and other eye brushes every 1-2 week. I’m lazy when it comes to washing brushes. I use the ELF brush cleanser, and when I’m out , I just use a regular shampoo to wash them.
This is also a very good technique, but lots of work, I’ve tried it.
I just skipped through it but I never soak my brushes. I wet them under the tap, put the shampoo in the palm of my hand and swirl the brush around as she does in one point of the vid. Then I rinse thoroughly, squeeze out in a towel and leave to dry in a sunny place.
For deep cleaning them, get some olive oil on a paper towel and use that to throughly clean your brushes. Once most of the make comes off on the paper towel wash your brushes gently with a good quality shampoo, Im lazy so I use whatever shampoo I have :) I
For eyeshadows, I have like 2-3 brushes and yes, I wipe and re-use them. No need to buy separate brushes for each color. Besides, as your "collection" grows...this is not very realistic either (for example: I have approx. 80 shadows!).
For cleaning:
1) ANY brush that uses liquid of cream product....such as foundation, primers etc.....I wash after every single use.
2) Brushes that use powder/dry products....eyeshadows...blush etc....I wash after using 4-5 times.
To wash:
Most of my bruhes are MAC. To wash them...I simply put them under the sink...rub hand soap on them....wash it off....squeeze out the excess water, and lay them on a towel to dry. I have never used any special cleaners. I've had most of my brushes for several years now and so far haven't had any issues.
