money is the language that speaks to them. lots of rich arabs shop in central london, selfridges being one of the stores, so if you pretend to be one of them they will be all over you.

I've gotten my makeup done twice, I believe. The first time, by the girl who was just really into makeup ...and didn't seem too into trying to sell the products. The second time it was by this distracted woman who was hoping...rather assumed that I'd buy the product. And I didn't...i didn't like the way it looked.
Just tell the lady that you're not sure if you're going to buy the product...you just shopping around and want to test things out before making up your mind...and ask her if she can do a demo, etc. They don't charge you for that. However, as Stoppit said above, if you want the makeup done for a function...you'll be charged. But for a trial...its okay.

If you happen to find yourself in the Selfridges in Manchester (either of them) then there's usually no need to worry about snobbyness :)

Wish i could :(..I'll be moving to London...When i last visited london i found counter ppl or most of the ppl in the uk quite cold i dont know why...

So what, be snobby back! Sometimes Selfridges/Harrods sales assisstants really annoy me with their ' ooo look I can touch the Gucci bag and you can't.' Jog on luv, you're a sales assisstant!
No offence to anyone who is a sales assisstant, I was one too during uni days, but I didn't have an attitude about it.
