I like the work she has shown on her website and she communicates well -- that's important for me. Plus she shows some pretty good credentials.
The price is reasonable for what I have asked....but the proof will be in the pudding.

for some reason i always thot sila was based in Tx 
for her bridal package, $300 doesnt sound so bad, forcoming to ur house and including hair and makeup..i’m assuming facials, pedicures, threading, waxing, and mehndi is not included.. muz if u dun mind me asking, wat r u asking for and how much is she charging?
Ive tried getting in touch wiht shirley, she does respond but takes a day or two and she still hasnt given me the price..but i like her work alot, she is the one who does your makeup on hte day right? How is she (and th artist for Sila as well), personality wise? is she nice or snobby or what? I hate ppl who are mean and snobby

I left a message for Hinna, got a voice mail back but she wasn't detailed in her voice mail and didn't give me any kind of price point (this may be because I didn't leave a whole lot of detail in my message). I should have called her back but, quite frankly, didn't have the time to chase the matter after 6 pm when cell phone calls are free.
In stark contrast Saman got back to me immediately. Her reply was succint and precise in email and the conversation was a pleasure. She asked key questions and gave me a definite answer as to price.
She has quoted me $175 for hair and make-up. While I believe that this is a little pricey for the average person attending a wedding, I am treating myself so I don't mind spending a little extra. Since I have never in my life had my make-up done by a professional, I am looking forward to the occassion and experience.

Saman's work is okay, i don't like ita s much as shirley's but the only date she's free , my parents wont do :( When I return to NY i'll call th eother parlours and find out.
WHen saman does your makeup, please let us kno how the expierience was, if u were satisfied with th work, if she was nice lady to work with and if she listens to yr suggestions and concerns.. :)

No...I didn't get my make-up done professionally when I got married.
I used to do bridal make-up for others, so I did my own. I had a couple of trials with some of the ladies that were popular then and I didn't like what they did, so fed up, I did it myself.
I promised myself that I would have mine done in Pakistan but I got so busy when I was there and so much responsibility being the eldest cousin that I didn't have time.
Now this wedding is near and dear to me so I thought I would treat myself.

no afshi...my wedding pics are so bad.....
lemme put it this way....at 4 pm on my wedding day, they were putting my mehndi ON.
just imagine the rest.
my husband's best friend, who was travelling from Chicago, left his passport at home in his other jacket and was standing at the border at 4 am the day of the mehndi...so hubby and I were on the road, driving to Buffalo to beg the immigration officials to let him off. By the time we got back it was 45 min before all the guests were to arrive. I was made to sleep for 20 minutes and got ready in record time......
don't even ask about all the things that went wrong on the day of the wedding....

lol....at least u get to have a laugh when u look back.....it was pouring rain on my mehndi (and in the gaon, rain is a big deal and a GOOD thing - it hadnt rained in months...)...i was freaking out that the tents were going to leak and the older ladies/men were rejoicing! the day of the barat it rained so much that the tent where my hubby was staning under gave way and if it weren't for his buddies, he would have got soaked...lol..

I know of someone who got their makeup done from Saman. From what I have heard, she is an extremely sweet person mashaa'Allah and very professional. She has her own website to show pictures of her work on studiosila.com and she also designs really nice clothes that you can see on her other website sila.com.

This has been a highly entertaining thread to read, with Afshi and Muzna's personal stories as well as all the makeup talk. :) I've never had my makeup done professionally but listening to all of you is making me want to!
