Make-up Advice

Hey Guppys,

I need some advice..InshaAllah Ill be going to Pakistan in March and staying for around 1 month..And in this time Ill be doing my wedding shopping and attending my fiance’s brothers wedding.

I wanted to know what sort of foundation would be suitable in the weather conditions in march/april in Pakistan..I need something light and long lasting..something I can wear on a day to day basis whilst shopping..

Which foundation would be suitable?
1.Liquid
2. Powder
3.Minerals Powder foundation

Please help!!

I am no expert but here’ what I think:

First of all, it depends on your skin type.

Secondly, cream foundation is also an option (not just liquid or powder).

About the brand: Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation or Light Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation is the one I would recommend… Its designed so that it stays on for long and it also has SPF in it to protect you from the UV rays when you go out into the sun.

I think you shouldn’t wear any makeup when going out for shopping in Pakistan. There really isn’t any need. You will be sweating a lot anyways. Why block your pores for no reason? Avoid makeup when you can.

And finally, no matter which kind of foundation u wear (liquid or cream) u MUST set it with a powder… either loose powder or another powder foundation. This is the key to your makeup lasting long in hot weather. Keep this powder in your bag and re-touch when needed.

Re: Make-up Advice

Maybe I'm skanky but even though I rarely leave my home (in the UK) without makeup, I just don't give a crap when I'm in Pakistan in the summer. It's so hot and dusty and you wanna wash your face all the time that there just doesn't seem like much point unless you're going out somewhere special. It starts looking gross so quickly too.

Personally, I'd just fix my eyes up; concealer, base for the lids (something that won't come off like udpp), neutral shadow wash, waterproof eyeliner and mascara.

hmmm to be honest I usually dont wear much make up over here in the summer..anyway I think I should just go with the light concelar and mascara and maybe some blush...I really dont want to look over done before my wedding n all...

ohh and thanks for reminding me huma..i forgot about sun lotion what factor is suitable for that weather..(sorry im asking I havent been in years and the times i have been they have been in the winter)
Ill defently have a look into the estee lauder foundation..for when i go to relatives houses and the wedding..
Thank you xx

I wouldn't use anything below factor 25 in pakistan. My favourite is Clinique SuperDefense SPF 25.

PS: If you go to the northern areas of Pakistan, the altitude is alot higher and its soo easy to get a sun burn when you're out n about in the northern areas. In 2007, we went to naraan for holidays and my khala got sun burned, I saw so many local kids sun burned... In these areas you shouldn't wear anything below SPF 40.

Re: Make-up Advice

Well Im going to Lahore..so would the clinique superdefense b ok then? There is also another lotion I tried its called spectraban, would that be good for lahore?

sorry yar can't help u with that one.. I haven't used spectraban so i can't really say anything on it.

But yes clinique superdefense or any other reputable brand in SPF 25 or more would be ok for lahore.

Re: Make-up Advice

I wud use a powder rather than a liquid, get a mineral powder, theres not point putting too much liquid foundation on your face bcoz it was will melt off and look patchy.

Jus focus on the eyes.

Hey piyari!
i would recommend this tinted moisturiser by nivea that i use..its called day cream and is like a liquid foundation..i used it and it was soo good, everyone complimented how good my skin looked :) it was nice and light and gives a nice glow to ur skin but still provided enough coverage without being too cakey..try it hun! x

that’s a very good idea :k: didn’t even think of that!

Hey Huma, what kind of powder would you recommend? would i still need the powder if all im using is tinted moisturiser? thanks hun  x

Well duffy the purpose of the powder (in this case) is not to give any more coverage but to set your foundation or tinted moisturiser. In hot weather u sweat so much that it is absolutely essential to carry a powder (either pressed or loose) so that you can set your foundation/moist. and re-touch whenever its necessary.

But if ur wearing a moisturiser u could always re-apply that if it comes off… with a foundation it takes a little more effort to re-apply (and they’re expensive so u don’t really want to use them up unnecesarily) so its just easier to use the powder. I’ll leave it up to you whether u want to carry your moisturiser with you everywhere and re-apply when it starts coming off or just use a powder to re-touch.

I would go for Makeup forever’s High Definition loose powder:

Sephora: MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Microfinish Powder: Loose Powder

It looks white but don’t worry it goes on completely translucent.

For pressed powders… hmm u can use any good brand really. I am currently using Mac’s and it works fine. Or you could even buy one from pakistan, my mom has a pressed powder from pakistan (she got it for like 100 rupees or something) and that works perfectly fine too.

I would like to mention one thing with regards to sun protection products. The SPF loses its effect after about 2 hours. So don't be thinking that a sun cream/lotion applied in the morning will protect you all day long... you must re-apply your sun protection product every 2 hours or so.

Re: Make-up Advice

I took my MAC (moisture blend I think it was) and Bobbi Brown compacts with me and my makeup looked horrible. No wonder people in pak cake their faces with sticks.

Re: Make-up Advice

I wore mineral makeup when I went to Pakistan and it worked out GREAT. I personally use Bare Minerals brand. I also went to Lahore.... in the summer months!!! It gave me full coverage, looked natural in person and in pics and I had no worries about the makeup itself going bad in the heat or it melting off my face.

My experience of using it in Pakistan was so good that ALL of my cousins that live there switched to using mineral makeup as well. :) They all use L'Oreal brand. My mom and Khalaa also take my advice and take mineral makeup with them when they go visit Pakistan.

I find it to be so light AND long lasting. Not suitable for shaadi makeup ofcourse... but perfect for every day...

Hope this helped :)

Re: Make-up Advice

^ I agree.. I went recently and I used exactly the same. Bare Minerals. It was really good... But be sure to use a moisturiser with higher spf. The foundation is spf 15 and I did find my self going darker by the end of the trip.

I like the tinted moisturiser idea! I think I shall be on the hunt for a nice one for when I go to Pakistan next!

Ill defently take a look when i next go into town for that!!, thank u soo much duffy..ooh n by the way me n mum finally sat down n discussed the dates i should go to pk..its going to be mid march to mid april...woooowwzaaa!!lol

Piyaarii! lol yayy so ur going for about a month? so does that mean u get to spend ur bday there?? :D wohoo lol..ok i think we should continue this conversation in the 2010 brides thread lol, i miss conversing with u on there!!

Re: Make-up Advice

Personally I wouldn't pick mineral foundation. I think mineral gives you a glow which added with humdity, sweat in Pakistan can look very weird. I would go with semi matte maybe. I bought MUF HD and I love it. If you don't get SPF in your foundation you can wear SPF lotion and then your foundation over it if you super concerned about sun. Just remember, and I always tell this to everyone. Pick a foundation that is photo friendly. You don't want your pics turning out all white and ghost like. Estee Lauder's Double wear is not photo friendly as someone recommened.
