Majority believes hard work rewarded in Pakistan: Poll **

KARACHI: No matter what the prophets of doom say in nightly news shows on TV day in day out, an overwhelming majority of Pakistanis still believes that hard work is duly rewarded in the country and leads to material success, according to a recent poll by Pew Research Centre — a non-partisan ‘fact tank’ in Washington DC.

In fact, of all the 21 countries where the survey was conducted, Pakistan came on top with 81 per cent of respondents saying people succeed if they work hard as opposed to 15 per cent who believe hard work is no guarantee of success.
**
The United States followed Pakistan with 77 per cent of respondents saying hard work assured success.**

India, China and Japan were more sceptical with only 67 per cent, 45 per cent and 40 per cent of the respondents recognising a close link between hard work and success, respectively.

“Fundamentally, the survey reveals that Pakistanis haven’t lost faith in the country. The Pakistani youth believes that current problems are short-term and can be resolved,” said Asad Umar, who joined politics in April after resigning from Engro Corporation, Pakistan’s largest conglomerate, as its CEO.

“That’s why Pakistanis believe in hard work — and its direct relationship with material success — more than the people of the United States, Germany or Japan.”

“Why don’t they leave…??? Who is stopping them?” …
Hope is stopping them, Mr. ‘Late’ prime minister!

there is always a dawn after dark :)

Re: Majority believes hard work is rewarded in Pakistan: Poll

i just wonder one thing, when will this darkness will go and dawn will come, so far nothing like that is happening . Do you guys really believe things will change

Re: Majority believes hard work is rewarded in Pakistan: Poll

The night is darkest just before dawn.

This is something always worth remembering!

Re: Majority believes hard work is rewarded in Pakistan: Poll

i do agree but we have bad vampires sucking blood of our nation, they will suck it all before the dawn, we will have only near dead chance to survive :frowning: at times i scare myself

Re: Majority believes hard work is rewarded in Pakistan: Poll

I know, and that’s what I’m concerned the most.

Nevertheless, I can’t totally agree with the notion, because if it were any other country, I’d have believed things to be too late. Not for Pakistan. What we have here is a unique cusp of everything good and bad in the world, plus the geo-strategic location, and not to mention the immense talent our nation has when it puts its heart into something.

It happens very little (thanks to the bad vampires sucking blood, as you mentioned above), but when it does, it’s there for all to see. It leaves the world in absolute bewilderment. Take a look at something as simple as cricket, you have other Asian countries (India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh) and they took years and years to win a test match in England, Pakistan did it in their first outing.

One just has to take a look at Pakistanis doing wonders in all the different fields, the different walks of life, with the troubles they are facing, to refill the **Hope Meter **up to maximum capacity. If they can accomplish what they have, after putting their hearts into a specific thing, while battling immense adversity, just imagine what they can do if the playing field is level.

It’s only a matter of time, now, just a matter of time.

What sometimes saddens me is that the innocent people that have passed away (and will pass away) without sharing the future, because of a lot of messed up priorities of all the powers that be in Pakistan. That’s the only thing that saddens me. Occasionally.

Re: Majority believes hard work is rewarded in Pakistan: Poll

the main problem is that when we become Pakistani:jhanda:. Frankly hardly few people in Pakistan call themselves pakistani. At times i feel everyone is hypnotize. Everyone knows what right and wrong but they just ignore :sunnyboy:this completely how can thing get better when we are all fighting with eachother and the fight is never ending:kursi:, the result is only disaster. Good people get killed and bad stay long-term. How can things change when people themselves are against changing,:dixsi: only pointing on each other to change. :crying: i really get scare when i think about the future.

Re: Majority believes hard work is rewarded in Pakistan: Poll

Gee, great use of smilies above.

Anyway, I believe our future will be as good or better than most other countries, when all is said and done. One thing is for sure, it can’t be much worse, because we already are going through the various stages of hell. Either that gets fixed, or that’s that. Hopefully the next decade or two things take a turn for the better. Or at least we don’t run towards our doom, that’s a start.

I am not saying it will all be roses at once, but the best part in building a nation, is building a nation.

Re: Majority believes hard work is rewarded in Pakistan: Poll

So please pardon me for being a bit pessimistic but for Building a nation i thought following process maybe essential (please correct me if i'm wrong)

For Building A Nation u need a stable structured Society based on Justice

For A stable structured Society u need a strong and stable caring Family structure based on justice

For A strong craing Family u need a strong and stable character/Pesonality whose qualities (among others) are to stand for justice, lead with his/her deeds, be able to forgive

How many such Character do u see in Pakistan ???

Re: Majority believes hard work is rewarded in Pakistan: Poll

I’ve said it before in a few other thread, and I’ll say it again: All we need are a few good men, and the common people of Pakistan to say enough is enough, let us get together and change our course. We have more than enough resources to pick up speed, all we need is to separate the good from the bad, and a slight push in the right direction. Justice, social structure, everything else will find its way.

As the saying goes: All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.

Once the common people (even if it is in the cities, not rural areas that are under the dominion of landlords) decide what’s evil and how to stop it, thing will automatically fall into place slowly, yet steadily. It does not mean finding a true-to-the-core leader in Pakistan, an honest one will do. Any honest one will do.

And I’ve already posted detailed thoughts on the silent paradigm shift going on among the common Pakistani people (and the only thing that stands in its way is Islamic radicalization, which I am 100% against). For instance, I believe the days of military takeovers are gone. Now, there is the remotest of chances we’ll have a general plan a coup. Why? Because society as a whole has strengthened, even if by bits.

The media was no where to be seen a couple of decades back? Now, there’s electronic one in homes, and social media on the Internet. Even if the channel owners are corrupt to the core, there are some good, honest, middle-class people that work there too.:hugz: Who do you think leaked the Malik Riaz episode from Dunya TV? And then there is the bridging gap of telecommunication, which ultimately brings people together, no matter the color or creed, region or religion. It does not discriminate. When people know they want good, they will take it in due time.

There are hard revolutions and there are soft ones. I’m not even sure we need either, there’s enough good still in the people of Pakistan. There always has been, even though the corrupt and evil have taken over the reigns of the country. I believe in my countrymen to come out good more than ever before. Yes, there are hurdles (radicalization, intolerance, among others), but give me one nation that had it terribly easy.

Almost all modern and developed nations and countries had to pass through this ring of fire. We’re darn near the end of it. That or the end of us. The days of casual hanky pankies are long gone.
