What are the major clans in Pakistani Punjab and Sindh? I believe that most of the people of both provinces are Rajputs and Jatts, which some Baloch tribes in Sindh.
Re: Major tribal clans of Sindh and Punjab
Most of the tribes in Sindh (Loond, Jatoi, Chandio, Jamali, Leghari, etc) are from Baloch origin who migrated into Sindh during 17th Century the time of clash between Chakar Khan and Lashari tribes. Many tribes also migrated to Southern Punjab and one can find same tribes (Leghari, Jamali, Khosos) there. Even Chakar Khans tomb is not in Balochistan, but in satghara, Sahiwaal.
Re: Major tribal clans of Sindh and Punjab
^ Chakar Khan was a Baloch? What would be the proportion of the various tribes in Sindh? I cant find the same for Punjab as well.
Re: Major tribal clans of Sindh and Punjab
The main tribes of Rawalpindi district Awans, Janjuas and Ghakkars are basically Rajputs whom the British deemed as the "martial classes" and these are the people who still form the backbone of Pakistan Army.

yes he is considered as hero in baloch culture even todate. Some people consider him as a saint. I think, I had a thread on him few months back.
In Sindh, these tribes (having Baloch origin) forms almost 50% of total population

Have found one book called Punjabi musalmans… Punjabi Musalmans
The major clans are
- Rajputs
- Jatts
- Gujjars
- Others (include Syeds, Awans, Gakhars, Janjuas, Baloch and Pathans)
Re: Major tribal clans of Sindh and Punjab
Interesting, I always thought Janjuas were a Rajput clan?
–
Awans are indeed thought to be of Arab origin and Hashemite descendants of Hazrat Ali (R.A.). Although some say they are of Rajput/Jat origin.

Major tribal clans in Pakistani Punjab:
Punjabi Language and Major Punjabi Dialects
The Punjabis found in Pakistan are composed of various social groups, castes and economicgroups.
Muslim Rajputs, Jat, Tarkhans, Dogars, Gujjars, Gakhars, Khatri or Punjabi Shaikhs,Kambohs, and Arains, comprise the main tribes in the north, while Awans, Gilanis, Gardezis,Syeds and Quraishis are found in the south.
There are Pashtun tribes like the Niazis and the lodhis, which are very much integrated into Punjabi village life. People in major urban areas have diverse origins, with many post-Islamicsettlers tracing their origin to Afghanistan, Persia, Turkey, Arabia and Central Asia.
Re: Major tribal clans of Sindh and Punjab
The origin of Arains seems to be baffling for me, Rajputs, Jatts, Gujjars, Dogars, Sheikhs and Kambohs make sense.
Re: Major tribal clans of Sindh and Punjab
