I just got home a while ago…got some water and lighters from a friend. Most of the gas stations on Westheimer(around Galleria) are out of gas already. I saw one open right on Chimeny Rock and 59 where cars are lined up onto the street.
Kashmiri, I spoke with my dad a little while ago…since most gas stations are already out of gas…what IF I head for Dallas, need gas in the middle, and can’t find a gas station? Or worse, what if I run out of gas in a place from Houston to Dallas where my cell phone isn’t working…heck, even if I have signal, the network’s gonna be busy. Being female and driving alone, I’d be completely helpless, and I think that’s a worse situation to be in.
I have a friend who lives in the Heights who’s gonna give me her house key tomorrow so I just might go to her house on Friday and stay there for a few days. Another friend of mine was saying today depending on how bad the situation is tomorrow afternoon, she might go to her mom’s house that’s in some little town about 45 min from houston…she asked me to go along with her…so if things are looking pretty bad tomorrow afternoon, I’m seriously considering going with her.
Not directly from the wall of the hurricane. However, it is an older area with poor drainage, that experiences flooding when there is a lot of rain. MSN has a map that shows the areas that could be threatened by a direct hit. This is not one of them.
The Houston to Dallas drive which normally takes 4 hours is now about 18 hours!!! Gridlock on I-45. They are thinking of opening up the southbound lanes for northbound traffic.
Some people have gone to Austin to avoid the big traffic going to Dallas, but hopefully the interstate I45 from Dallas (southbound to Houston) will be open for northbound traffic sooner than later and travel time will reduce. Though Austin is further west of Houston, but I don't think its safe enough as Austin might see winds in the speeds of ~100mph.
cant you hook up with another family or something thats getting out of there? Anyways may Allah keep all of you safe.
And detroit-haters, we still have people with the biggest hearts who are ready to share jobs, homes and what-nots with hurricane-refugees who have the audicity say theres nothing in detroit

They’re starting with 45…then they’ll do the same with 290 and then I-10. A friend of mine is heading out of town, most likely towards Austin…I’m planning on going whereever he goes…I’m packing as much stuff as I can…waiting for his call to let me know when/where he’s leaving to. My dad called and said to either get out of here, or worst case scenario, to go to a govt. shelter. I figured getting out is the best…and if I am gonna go anywhere, I’d feel much safer if I had a 6’2" guy with me.
The only thing I’m veeery scared about is my car running out of gas in the road. But hopefully, Insha’Allah everything will be fine.
Oh BTW, if any of u in case is still in Houston and need supplies, they said in the news some Rice Epicurian stores still has some supplies like water left…but that was like an hour ago.
