In rural areas of Punjab, “Majh” is part and parcel. In most of the other countries its Cow, why buffaloes in Pakistan?

You mean buffaloes don't get attention in other countries like in Pakistan. I think, in Pakistan, we have best breed of buffaloes (majh). Sahiwal di majh is famous all over Pakistan. BTW, why buffalo is not popular in KP and Balochistan

I dont know, maybe they were used for tilling the land, milk and using their waste for fertilizers and energy source...
am not really sure why its so popular in rural punjab and maybe sindh?

Muqa, sahiwal ki Gaye is famous not Majh. The best breed Majh is Neeli Ravi.
As for importance, the milk of majh is much higher in fat content - giving more ghee,makhan etc etc and tastes better (as per local taste buds).
Moreover, the Majh is much more dheet than a cow, it gets sick rarely and is..well..more like us punjabis.....it doesn't get bothered very easily and has an easy going attitude..as opposed to cows..who are relatively sensitive and feisty creatures.

majh is very much famous in Sindh. I think they are more popular than cows. I remember that folk literatureof Punjab and Sindh also refers to majh rather than cow,be it Heer Waris Shah ‘Ranjhe majhiyan charayan’ or Shah Latif’s ‘Humma Humma pyari..Humma Humma bhilla bhatari’.Majh is considered a barkat wala animal by referring to it as ‘bhattari’.

I used to love Alan Faqir when I was a kid.
Majh is very much ingrained in our every day conversations:
some one who has put on some weight is likened to have become a “majh” and then we have “tu ki jaanay poliyay majjay anarkali diyan shaanan”

OMG.. You resolved one of my unanswered queries. My dadi used to say idol sitting children 'vohRa / vohRi' and when I asked what does that mean. she replied 'pata nahin.. baRi booRhiyan aise kehtithi'.Now I know wherefrom this originated :p

simply because the fat content in water buffalo is way more than that of the cow milk...it gives more thick, creamy and yummier 'malaaii' ...
...i remember, in my village and most villages in India, the cow milk was given to the babies, the sick/infirm and the elderly. it's lighter and easier to digest.

Most famous is Anjuman. I used to call her samose wali Anjuman, because one of my cousin used to say in childhood that ‘samoose main aaloo mesh karne ke liye Anjuman ki khidmaat li jati hai’ Recently when I visited him on Eid, he ordered aaloo wale samose and aaloo were not properly meshed. He said ‘Anjuman retire ho gai hai’
