A lot of unnecessary distractions seems to increase with every passing day and taking hold of muslim youth, e.g. Movies with morally bad concepts poisoning the hearts of youth.

Re: Mainstream Distractions and Student Life
excellent topic brther STP,
due to media figures who have nothing to offer except the glamour of their glitz that many a times is anything but decent, students are into a lot of crap which has introduced into their minds and life, bizzarre ideals and thoughts. they dont know whom to follow. religion and cultures, family values or personal sense of right and wrong as they grow into young women and men.
education may does its part very clearly in the right manner, but the social atmoshpere of schools and colleges displaces the emphasis on education onto being seen and seeing other people to compare oneself with and feel unhappy about oneself either because of personal wealth being less or perceived less, or due to less social clout.
disturbances such as distraction of the mind disables students abilities to prioitize their needs as a student i.e., focusing on the step wise process of graduation from grade to grade with a good academic track record.
and then there are students who learn the hard way but have the capability to get well on in their education because now they do realize its immense value. yet, the attention is somehow paid to those who are either simply luck and hard working, which is good or to those who get ahead through ill begotten means. being out in the face of others through personal charisma rather than talent or wits, intelligence or moral strengths.
when this dynamic is coupled with work places filling up with younger generation of employees right after basic education, college and university education due to also being very expensive, becomes inaccessible of not attractive for all students who fall prey to getting on with their pratical life or no life simply by depending on social contacts and buddy system. this trend is a disadvantage because not all people end up doing successful businesses or go to t.v. or films to cash more of their face and made up appearances.
this also down grades the average face and body because now it does not meet the standards of the idealized figures that become famous.
couple all this with every day hard ships or social injustices and youth opr young professionals become lax in their attitude to persevere in making their individual niche in the social establishment.
we live in a world where going for a fashion show is considered better than working as a volunteer in a local park to preserve trees and grow more of them.
professions are entered after an education not to improve one's mind, morality and character, but to earn more and more and more.
and there you have it: all vices in people. there is hypocrisy in people, untruth, deceit, greed, arrogance and malice and the worst thing is aloof attitude when soemthing unjust is happening in our work places, in our communities, we are untouched by any of it ... until it happens to us or one of our loved ones.
and still the media propaganda and the motto of what sells is either violence or cheapness, is held more important than works and presentations of people and their personalities from whom, someone might actually learn something good and reliable. but no. that is what does not make it to the minds of young men because they are so blase' due to the effects an influences of short cuts of getting to the forefront on social scenes.
this is very sad and disappointing.
while performing arts such as dance and music are great skills and source of tasteful entertainment and learning, now a days they teach only cheapness by way of the direction of the videos and themes of the drama series or films.
the power is of the viewer's, only if as young students they CHOOSE to only support that what will be better for them vs. what is only hurtful and distastefull.
best,
Dushwari

Everything should be in balance. That doesn't give anyone the right to dictate to anyone else how to spend their free time. Let Allah determine if it was okay for me to spend some hours at the mall or watching TV instead of praying. (Time outside the 5 prayers that is).
I mean , seriously. How long does it take to do 5 prayers? You should really be left with abundant hours after completing the requirements.

Calm down. Many movies are very enriching and they make you think. Not every movie makes you want to get up and kill people. What kind of movies have you been watching?? I haven't seen any such movie with "bad concepts poisoning the hearts of youth".
Now, if you're talking about filmain from the land of the "Pure" (Paksitan), I can agree with you - that sort of filth would poison anyone's mind. So, take your preaching, pack it up, ship it off to Pakistan's Lahore cinema scene, and share with guarded movie directors and producers your theories.
Oh wait, its so much easier to preach from an online pulpit to people that wont beat the physical crap out of you. Its so much hard to actually target individual trouble-makers and speak to them on an individual basis. And its so much easier to point out how American films are bad when your brehren are more interested in watching dirty dancing in Indian and Pakistani movies. Somehow, that doesn't register as "corruption" for you folks.
