My point is that the army didn’t crush the protesters unlike how things unfolded back when Mossadeq was deposed. Some say that the shah was lenient just like how Musharraf didn’t rig elections in 2008, but others say that it was the army in both cases that said ‘no’ to their bosses. I am willing to err in favor of musharraf considering he wasn’t as dictatorial being an army chief compared to the demoRat prime minister of pakistan now.

The army very much crushed the protesters till Shah fled. People were determined to overthrow him and once he had fled the army than change sides after a while. Anyway that is a separate issue and will derail this thread if we start discussing the Iranian revolution.
