I can think of a few places that $400,000 could be better used. I'm sure U.S.A or the World would not mind if Prime Minister of Pakistan misses a global get-together for the sake of looking after internal crises and overseeing the efforts being made to take care of citizens of Pakistan who have been effected by floods and the rendered IDPs.
But you know, maybe visiting New York is important.

I remember in his first term he came here for almost a week and the PIA plane remained there on JFK airport till his departure. You can imagine the amount this airport earned in rent or fee.
But he's not alone. Benazir did pretty much same. And Musharraf came several times too in similar lavish style, one of which he stayed for 10 days. In fact John Stewart of Comedy Central invited him for his book and asked this question, Mr. President who's looking after they country for 10 days?!

With flood all over Pakistan, this amount could have helped in providing relief activities and NS could have sent President Mamnoon Hussain instead if the trip was that important.
or he could have gone there with spending fewer funds and for few days only... have your meetings and get back home... ( if home is not Pakistan) then get back to Pakistan.

He should cancel this trip and send money to flood victims. I'm sure with 39 million rupees 100s of destroyed homes could be rebuild instead of PM and his cronies going on trip to NYC.

wht else you expect from him, he already spent so much in first year on foreign trips, if this azadi march was not happening he might have done few more trips.

inqilab naya pakistan has failed so time of departure is very far away. Remember, the protesters aren't the irani mob of 1979 nor has the pakistani military thrown its lot behind them like what happened in iran. For good or the worse, the mass would never be there even in punjab let alone other provinces joining in the mud fest.

I was in Tehran throughout the Khomeini revolution and witnessed it all. This "tsunami" is not even 1% of what was going on there. The whole nation was out on streets, fighting the army. The army in the end gave up and joined the people and that is when the revolution came. I can write a book on my experiences during the revolution there. :)

My point is that the army didn't crush the protesters unlike how things unfolded back when Mossadeq was deposed. Some say that the shah was lenient just like how Musharraf didn't rig elections in 2008, but others say that it was the army in both cases that said 'no' to their bosses. I am willing to err in favor of musharraf considering he wasn't as dictatorial being an army chief compared to the demoRat prime minister of pakistan now.
Don't forget this is his last term as PM unless he changes the law.
As a PM who is enjoying his last term he is trying very hard to get his head in Karahi,his fingers are already in ghee.

The army very much crushed the protesters till Shah fled. People were determined to overthrow him and once he had fled the army than change sides after a while. Anyway that is a separate issue and will derail this thread if we start discussing the Iranian revolution.
