A mahram is a person whom you can never marry because of the close relationship (e.g. a brother, a father, an uncle etc.); or her own husband.

Foster father is the one who takes you in if ur adopted..
Stepfather is the man ur mom marries after she is divorced or widowed..

in that case a foster father does not become a mehram unless he has some other direct relation with the girl that makes him a mehram to her....

You can not marry your step father because he is your (biological) mother's husband.
Your foster father is a random man who adopted you, he is not related to you via any family ties.

i think by foster they meant suckling relationships…otherwise foster relatives are not mehram..wallah o alam

Okay another question.. so u know how here, some men will adopt their wife’s biological kids and giv em their last name (in cases where the kids biological father is not in the picutre, dead, or deadbeat) but the kid knows that he’s not the biological father… is “adoption” (giving them the last name, inheritance) etc.. allowed?

Assalamu Alaikum, Foster mother is the one who breastfed someone,and yes foster mother aunt etc, here means the mahrams because of suckling someone or in Arabic RADHAEE relationship.
All the women who are mahrams for a boy in a normal family, same rules apply for the Radhaee family.
Same is for a girl, all the men who are her mahrams in a normal family, same rule applies for the Radhaee family.
Foster father is not someone who adopted a girl, rather, FOSTER FATHER IS THE HUSBAND OF THE LADY WHO BREASTFED A GIRL WHEN SHE WAS LITTLE, hence, she is like his daughter and marrying her is haram.
