yup, politicians are known for that. Only 4-5 months left for elections. But I hope that these ppl wake up now.
Re: Maharashtrian leaders resign
was this leader a member of congress or BJP?
All Congress. Maharashtra is ruled by Congress. Next CM Sushil Kumar Shinde is a Dalit, very weak leader, loyal to Gandhi family. So dont expect miracles.
Re: Maharashtrian leaders resign
It is hard to expect miracles with this generation of leaders from any political party. Do you particularly feel it would have been different if any other party was in power. There would have been more posturing but less of action.
A nice gesture indeed. But shouldn’t be the top Naval & Intelligence brass resigning for utter incompetence, since the alleged “pakistani” terroists not only avoided all intelligence services but also successfully passed thru all Naval patrol in the area. ![]()
It was an intelligence failure. You cant blame the navy. The Indian coastline is too huge and there are innumerable number of fishing ships to add to the confusion

and yet no heads rolling there! Only political leaders resigning, just before elections. hmmmmmmmmmm
Re: Maharashtrian leaders resign
Ya I completely agree. A complete revamp is required.
Maharashtra gets new Chief Minister. Son of former Home Minister and CM Shankarrao Chavan, Ashok Chavan is the new CM of Maharashtra.
New CM loves Bollywood flicks
6 Dec 2008, 0005 hrs IST, Ambarish Mishra, TNN
MUMBAI: Bollywood flicks may not exactly zoom out of Ashok Shankarrao Chavan's frenetically busy life as Maharashtra chief minister. "But now he may not have much time for his favourite films,'' said Marathi writer Anil Thatte, who has seen the new CM at close quarters for over two decades, on Friday.
Having spent his teens during the sizzling 1970s, Chavan has a huge soft spot for Hindi cinema. "As a college student, he never missed his Friday matinee show at Naaz, Apsara or Swastik cinema,'' said a Mantralaya colleague.
Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini and Mumtaz topped the young undergraduate's list of celluloid icons. Shahrukh Khan, Aamir and Aishwarya Rai are the latter-day additions to the list.
Chavan loves to watch Hindi films in the company of close friends-playback singer Suresh Wadkar is a buddy-and family members, wife Ameeta and twin daughters. "Chavan is a foodie too, but he takes care of his calories,'' added Thatte.
Chavan is an alumni of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Hazarimal Somani college, near Chowpatty, which is known as the breeding ground of actors. Years later, he became minister for cultural affairs (and industries too) in the Vilasrao Deshmukh ministry. The portfolio allowed him to interact with theatre and cinema stalwarts.
"He doesn't care much for Bollywood parties. But he likes to meet and hear out natakwallas, litterateurs and Bollywood people,'' said a Mantralaya bureaucrat.
Said theatre personality Waman Kendre, "Chavan comes across as a decent, pragmatic leader. Most important is that he is a good listener. He doesn't keep blowing his own trumpet .'' Kendre has worked closely with Chavan on a number of cultural projects in the P L Deshpande Academy at Prabhadevi.
Meanwhile, Chavan's elevation as chief minister has brought a measure of comfort to the state bureaucracy, largely because of his non-controversial, low-profile background. "He stays 10 miles away from controversies. You can never catch him shooting his mouth off. His notings on the Mantralaya files, too, are measured and indicate a sharp mind,'' said a senior bureaucrat who has been Chavan's colleague for over three years.
Pointing out that Chavan has inherited some qualities of his father, late Shankarrao Chavan, the bureaucrat said, "Ashokrao is open to suggestions and innovation. If you talk about a new idea, he will tell you, `Work on it and let me know'.'' Added Thatte, "Ashokrao can understand a problem because he has the ability to slip his feet in your shoes, put himself in your predicament.''
