What is the religious significance of maghrib (sunset) in Islam? I have heard so many muslims putting a lot of interpretations on it… no music, if you are out come in, time of silence, etc. Some people tell me that there are quranic reasons for this others say that it ia a carry over of pre-islamic superstitions about jinns.
Could people please share their family traditions about maghrib and also the reasons for them? Thanks.

AA, Music is HARAM.. so we shouldnt be listening to it at all !! doesnt matter if its b4 maghrib or after maghrib.. i've also heard similar things like u should come inside of the house around maghrib n tht jinns etc land n all.. but not too sure abt it.. as jinns, etc. r always around us...
Religious significance of the actual moment of sunset is well, the salaat-ul-maghrib itself. Other than that, there are a few quotes/ahadees/ayaat Ive read and heard regarding that time, and around that time.
Qiyamat will strike between Asr and Maghrib (in mekkah).
Prophet SAW advised sahaba RA not to sleep after Asr, because of the above mentioned fact.
You cannot pray between Asr till before sunset, not even nawafil, nor qaza prayers. To substitute for that, Prophet SAW advised to read Quran as much as possible during this time.
As for family traditions, Ive never seen any in my family. And to be matter of factly, things like reading Quran excessively, not sleeping too much, not listening to music etc are things that would be advisable any time of the day. Basically its just about being alert to the fact that the moment of your death or qiyamat, either can fall at any time, and you dont want to be caught dead in the state of no Imaan.
Well wat i've heard is the fact that Suraih
Asr mentions something about it and the gist of it is that:
By the decling day..
Man will surely be in loss
Except those who exhort one another to truth and exhort one another to patience
And most religious scholars believe that this is The time between Asr and Maghrib, when either Qayamat will come or that We are being judged on wat we do throughout the day!
I hope this helps.
