still wondering what it was all about.
was it the gender unequality issues? while laylas dad remaries a bollywood wannabe and procreation all over again , her mum is forced to put a front of still being married to him to save face in the traditional community. laylas beatings from her fathers which only stopped on her wedding day and her acceptance of the husband and traditional ways when she begins to look more like a taditional indian girl while he dresses up in western clothes ( gift from Laylas mum)
sometimes the story felt like a mixture of hit indian films with focus and description of the weddings rituals, and a bit of tenessee williams street car named desire as the husband turns out to be gay. the ending was similar to brick lane both ending with a disturbances in the local community except that brick lane was in east london and other one in india.oh well
