Why Madhuri Dixit is often mentioned as modern day Madhubala or some sort of successor? I remember Umar Sharif saying it once, read Anil Kapoor saying that and the oldies from my own social circle also share this view. I find them totally different in so many ways. Anyone has any idea why they’re both compared?

She seems like definite and undisputed favourite of the people from older generation from both sides of the border, but what was so special about her? Like I know Marilyn Monore was famous for her childlike innocence, bombshell body and high profile affairs but why was Madhuabla is so fondly remembered? Pardon my ignorance but I find Madhubala so enigmatic as a person, I know she was a great actress of her time and now considered an all time legend.

Wow really? Was she some sort of sex symbol like MM? Because Marilyn's unfortunate death significantly changed public's perception of her, her image became lot sweeter and respectful...she wasn't that fondly appreciated in her lifetime the way she is today. I'm just curious about Madhubala, wanna know what made her so special and fascinating?

I think it's because of the popularity they gained in a short period of time. Both women are beautiful, had very successful movies and you'll hardly see Madhuri in "trashy" outfits unlike other Bollywood actresses of today earning her a respectful and graceful image.
So maybe that's why?

the two cant be compared cuz they belonged to diff eras!
i think madhuri is madhuri and bollywood is yet to find a replacement for her. i hvnt seen much of madhubala so i cant really comment on her but yes, i often use to wonder why people raved so much about her beauty! not sayin she is not pretty but i didnt find her to be "wow" either. I would prefer a meena kumari over her anyday but i guess thats just me.

Yeah you can watch Madhuri's footage 50 years from now, you'd still feel the charisma and energy oozing out of her on screen persona (though she wasn't much different in real life either).

I don't know about Madhubala but I do know that some people say that she came in good films and got good roles like in Mughle Azam etc.
People also say that Madhuri's smile resembles Madhubalas. Madhubala had good features at that time and a good smile as well but there weren't any good makeup brands back in the day so probably her features weren't enhanced in films. Meena Kumari had some resemblance to Helen. While you can see that Madhuris age shows on her face but she still look really attractive because of her smile and features same is the case with Madhubala. I haven't seen Madhubala in dark makeup her makeup looks natural in all her pictures.
