Macaronis...

Hey all

So when I hear macaroni I think macaroni cheese…but in Pakistan they call this pasta dish macaronis (as it has macaroni pasta) anyone know what im talking about? Any good recipes for it?

So like there are different kind of pastas, shell, linguine, spaghetti, thin spaghetti etc. macaroni is a kind of pasta. You can use it however you like, Mac and cheese, Pakistani style, with keema etc. Just naming the dish based on the kind of pasta used would validate what Pakistanis call it. Here we say Mac and cheese, stuffed shell, linguine Alfredo. Meatball spaghetti etc

Re: Macaronis…

Aye Allah ke banday aur bandiyon, haat jor kar darkhaast karti hoon…please stop with the “macaronis” and “hairs” and “shrimp**s”

**There plural form is still M-A-C-A-R-O-N-I…H-A-I-R…S-H-R-I-M-P… there is no “S” added.

It makes me go absolutely bonkers, please for the love of god, stop!! :mad2:

Now, as Spiral said above, “macaroni”, also known as elbow shaped pasta, refers to the shape. It can be used in many different preparations and dishes. The way I’ve seen it made in Pakistan is either a mayonnaise based salad type with beans and corn and sometimes fruit (bleh..gross) or made with keema. And yes, they call it 'macronis" :sadaf:

Re: Macaronis...

My mom's recipe of pasta (Chicken noodles) is boiling them and boneless chicken separately (in different pots), cooking all the veges Chinese style in another pot. And mixing them in the end.

The tip is not to boil the noodles too much as that softens them and taste bad. Also avoid over cooking the veges to keep them crisp.

Personally, I dont like any kind of pasta. Whenever my mother cooks any type, I dont eat.

Re: Macaronis...

I heart pasta.

Re: Macaronis...

^^ redvelvet, my sis does too. Like, matter palao is my most favourite, chicken noodles are her most favourite :)

Re: Macaronis…

why is khattichics so angry?

Re: Macaronis…

My kids love macaroni pasta made from scratch. Simplest recipe for kids version would be…

On medium heat melt 1 ts butter

Also add 1 ts all-purpose flour. Whisk it till turns into roux (don’t brown it)

Add 3/4 cup of warmed milk…whisk some more to avoid lumps…Add (1/2 cup) sharp yellow cheddar cheese, a pinch of mustard powder and season it well with salt/black pepper…Mix well and add the boiled pasta…Thats it.

ps: I avoid pasta usually but last week on my burday dinner my sister treated me to some lobster ravioli and I am still thinking about it :yummy:
