MAC Brushes

Hey ladies.. I want to invest in a couple good MAC EYE BRUSHES. I’m recently learning how to do eye make-up so what would be most HIGHLY recommended eye makeup brushes to start my collection? In other words, what MAC eye makeup brushes can you NOT live without when doing eye makeup? Please list your top 5! I want to especially focus on creating a smokey eye. Thank you!

Re: MAC Brushes

I would suggest MAC 213, 227 for application of eye shadow, MAC 217 for blending and MAC 219 for smudging. MAC 208 is good for filling in the brows.

Re: MAC Brushes

Hi one eye brush that i think is a absolute must is the 224! The blending brush. So many girl i have seen where they have just patted on the colour but not blended and I wish I could just say to them invest in a blending brush!

On the other hand- if you want to save some money it does not have to be mac. But yeah a blending brush is a must. I also like the 209 for doing my water line using the gel liner. 217 is recommended a lot!

Re: MAC Brushes

Yeah i agree with random girl, MAC brushes are real expensive. Not sure but Sigma brushes, Crown brushes have been fairly popular too in terms of lower prices and same quality.

Re: MAC Brushes

Sigma brushes are great they are better than MAC

Re: MAC Brushes

Ladies, where do i get Sigma brushes from?

Re: MAC Brushes

I think they can only be ordered online, not sure where the sale points are. The website is : http://www.sigmabeauty.com/

Re: MAC Brushes

thanks for sharing the sigma website...the brushes have great reviews, and the prices seem reasonable

Re: MAC Brushes

Re: MAC Brushes

Sigma Makeup Brushes vs. MAC Brushes Comparison with Photos - seem pretty good if you’re on a budget. My main problem with cheaper brushes I have tried is the ‘fluffiness’ and limpness that temptalia mentions for a lot of the brushes. With colour application especially, you need a firm brush that moves where you move it.

I’ve had my MAC brushes for years and in the early days, did buy other brands that people were raving about being “just as good as mac” - they weren’t.

The thing is, you don’t need every MAC brush, just a choice selection. My flat foundation brush is actually by Japonesque as I prefer their synthetic fibres for applying solid creme foundation. My blush brush and a flat square liner brush are also by Japonesque.

I’d say these are my only MAC essentials. I have some other shadow brushes but don’t use em much.

My 187 is MAC - had it years, colour doesn’t run, fibres hardly ever shed and the white part is still white with regular cleaning.

Eye brushes:
263 - angled liner brush. I wouldn’t use anything else but even with MAC choose carefully and find one which the slant is completely straight and a brush which is not too thick, if you’re buying it.
239 - shadow brush.
219 - pencil brush

Re: MAC Brushes

Like stoppit said I don't think you need a crazy amount of MAC brushes...I only have a few MAC brushes and they seem to do the job.

MAC 187- I rarely wear foundation but when I do I use this brush...I have the 190 as well but I prefer stippling on my foundation.
MAC 239- Eye shadow brush.
MAC 217- Eye shadow blending brush
MAC 219- Pencil brush
MAC 266- Angled eye liner brush

I think the ones I've mentioned above are hard to find cheaper alternatives to.

Re: MAC Brushes

I agree with the ladies above, Mac brushes may be expensive but you are definitely getting what you pay for.

217, 239 and 219 are the perfect eye brushes for whatever look you're going for.
