I don’t think they are showing women necessarily as weak and dependent.
The mother is a widow yet raised 2 daughters on her own, which is extremely hard in a place like Pakistan (just watch Khusbhoo ka Ghar and you see what situations single mothers/widows have to face everyday in Pakistan). Yet, she was able to do it successfully without resorting to malicious and greedy tactics …
You have to remember there are various relationships portrayed in this drama. There are the two sisters, the khalas. One has a son and wanted to help her younger sister by getting Aiman and her beta, Faisal, married (also she liked Aiman). There is loyalty, love and sincerity in their relationship as sisters.
Then they showed us another relationship of two sisters, Aiman and Saba. Saba is rat who is determined to make sure her sister will never have any happiness. Aiman grew up seeing the loyalty and love between her mother and khala. It is not surprisingly she treats Saba the same way.
Saba may be getting everything she wants, but she has no respect from anybody (except for Aiman - which will eventually change). Nearly everybody see’s through her tactics. She will run off with the business partner, but she won’t have any respect at the end of the day (except from Faisal … and is that a man who is worthy of respect himself???)
