MaaN ka Khuaab [Dream of a mother]

This poem by ALLAMA Iqbal is from Baang-e-Dara and apparently is for children…

being for children, though quite easy the diction; nonetheless, I as a novice could not understand the context and background meaning or the story behind it… IT does bring the emotions some where in heart but it seems that some thing is missing understanding the very sentiments behind it… Is Iqbal critisizing on too much love of a mother for her child that it some times is not good for a child … I dunno. may be I have just too little knowledge to understand beautiful poetry… If anyone knows anything or have read any thing anywhere about it, please share with us here

**ﺏﺍﻮﺧ ﺎﮐ ﻥﺎﻣ (MaaN kaa Khuaab)**

MaiN soee jo ik shab tau dekha yeh khuaab
BaRRha aur jiss say meraa izteraab

Yeh dekha kay maiN jaa rahi hooN kahiN
Andhera hay aur rah milti nahiN

Laraztaa thaa dar say mera baal baal
Qadam ka thaa dehshat say uTThna muhaal

Jo kuch hosla paa kay aagay baRRhi
Tau dekha qataar ik laRRkouN ki thee

Zamarrud sii poshaak pehnay huay
Diye sub kay haathouN maiN jaltay huay

Woh chup chaap thay aagay peechay rawaaN
Khudaa jaanay jaanaa thaa unn ko kahaaN

Issi soch maiN thee kay mera pis’r
Mujhay iss jama’at maiN aaya nazar

Woh peechay thaa aur taiz chaltaa naa thaa
Diya uss kay haathouN maiN jaltaa naa thaa

Kahaa maiN nay pehchaan kar meri jaaN
Mujhay choRR kar aa gaye tum kahaaN?

Judaaie maiN rehti hooN maiN bay qaraar
Pirotii hooN roz ashkouN kay haar

Na parwaa hamaari zara tum nay kee
gaye choRR, acchi wafa tum nay kee

Jo bacchay nay dekha mera pech-O-taab
Diya uss nay moonh pher kar youN jawaab

Rulaati hay tujh ko judaaie meri
NahiN iss maiN kuch bhee bhalaaie meri

Yeh keh kar woh kuch dair tukk chup rahaa
Diyaa phir dikhaa kar yeh kehnay laggaa

Samajhti hay tu ho gayaa kiyaa issay?
Teray Aansoo’ouN nay bujhaayaa issay

4 hours.. hmmmmm

Very nice

Judaaie maiN rehti hooN maiN bay qaraar
Pirotii hooN roz ashkouN kay haar

Na parwaa hamaari zara tum nay kee
gaye choRR, acchi wafa tum nay kee

hmmm.. interesting.. thank you... :-)

and over all the years, whenever i read this i get different understanding everry time...

:k:
one of the greatest from Allama Iqbal:flower1:…

very nice...

ik muddat say mere maan nahin soye Tabish
main nay ik baar kaha tha mujhay dur lagta hay

Gdha bhai its realy nice :k: ise bat par

*sigh okay bhai logouN.. thanks for 'understanding' and then appreciating it:)

First of all dear thanks for sharing such a deep and wonderful poem with us.
now in mine opinion

" Andhera hay aur rah milti nahiN "

yeh bata raha hai kay her taraf tareeki hai, yani kay maan tareeki mein hai, our yahan tareeki say murad "ignorance" hai.

aisay mein lerkoun kay haath mein

" Diye sub kay haathouN maiN jaltay huay "

tareeki mein diya yeh bata raha hai kay lerka "shaoor" yaan "aagehi" rakhta hai.

"Woh chup chaap thay aagay peechay rawaaN
Khudaa jaanay jaanaa thaa unn ko kahaaN"

yeh bata raha hai kay, lerkay ki koi manzil hai, koi zindagi ka neik maqsad hai.jis kay liey woh sab kuch chour aaya hai.hatta kay maan.

"Woh peechay thaa aur taiz chaltaa naa thaa
Diya uss kay haathouN maiN jaltaa naa thaa

              our

Samajhti hay tu ho gayaa kiyaa issay?
Teray Aansoo'ouN nay bujhaayaa issay"

yeh bata raha hai kay lerka chounkey apni zimmedarion say pouree terhaan aazad naheen hai iss liey ous kou apne neik maqsad mein kamyabi pouree terhaan naheen mil rahi.

so it looks like a message for mothers that if their child wants to spend his or her life for a good purpose then dont bother him and just sacrifice their responcibilities which are on the shoulders of the child.and prey for his success in mission.

baqi woh mout waala concept zaida thiek lagta hai.

apni aqal tou yahan tak hi kaam kerti thee bhai logoo.

bhatka_musafir: that was once nice analysis with strong reasonings:) Thanks… Ofcourse, that is your own understandings and well-understood:k:… I will be happy if some one also come up with any literal reference to this poem meaning if any learned person wrote anything on this poem somewhere and anyone has the info, that will be great to share too.. other than that… I see very well-thought points here… Thank you all…

Kay, here's my long overdue reply. :)

I think the pieces discusses the nature of an overprotective yet loving mother who's not letting her child grow & prosper as an individual. No matter how old the child maybe, the mother always thinks of him/her as an child. She's afraid of the world out there and therefore she goes out to seek him. With each step she's getting more worried and scared as she's not able to see him or find him. Once she does find him, he's at the end of the line, he's not ahead of the boys that shows that he's being held back. There's something that's slowing his progress, and it's his mother's tears. Her unnecessary fears that are holding him back. Diya i think signifies success or tells of the future. His bujha hua diya says that he's confined and constrained and is not progressing as he should be. And if he isn't allowed to grow, he will eventually fall out of the line and be left behind.
