Do you like calling strangers by these titles? If no, how do you address others?
Re: maamon, uncle, aunty, baji, chacha etc
If someone is not my family i call them aunty, uncle.
as in Bilal uncle, Narghis aunty..
however if someone is not my family but we are family friends and know each other from long i do call them these kinds of names and they also treat me as their daughter, sister, niece etc
For example, we know these people since 14 something years now and i call the uncle chachu because he is younger then my dad and his kids call my dad and mom taya abbu and taya ammi.
As for gs, yeah i call TLK and Niksik mamo and mami and Shikra and Mrs. Shikra bhai and bhabhi:chai:
Re: maamon, uncle, aunty, baji, chacha etc
It's what I was taught so its what I do. Unless requested to call them by another name.
Re: maamon, uncle, aunty, baji, chacha etc
Well that is a bit true for me too.
Re: maamon, uncle, aunty, baji, chacha etc
Isn't it better to call strangers sister or brother even if they're much older than you instead of uncle aunty etc?
I have noticed that other nations like Arabs and English don't call others by these titles so why we south Asians have to call others uncles and aunties?
Re: maamon, uncle, aunty, baji, chacha etc
See hareem baji you are thinking differently, we have always been raised with respect for elders in our minds. I know my mom’s friend she is just 3 years older to me but she is married and has a kid, instead of calling her sister i call her aunty because she deserves it. She is elder to me plus maturer and she is married, it feels weird for me to call her sister. Plus it is not fair on my poor mother who is not even in her 40s that i call her friend sister and she becomes an aunty or grandma:cb:
