Pretty cool service. Has anyone tried it yet? They give 25 gb of space on their site where you can put your documents, photos etc. You can either mark them public or private. I would recommend encrypting the private docs, you don’t know who’s looking:
SkyDrive - Windows Live
“25 GB of free storage on Windows Live
With SkyDrive, it’s easy to store and share your files and photos with almost anyone.”
That goes without saying, but how cool is that you can upload everything there (when reinstalling your pc etc) and not worry about data. Back in the mid 90's I'd send myself emails with zip files of all my docs on AOL when I needed to rebuild my PC.
PS: You think your data is secure on your PC? As long as data is on a live computer and the computer is connected to the internet the data sitting on a silver platter.
what are the download restrcitions. There are other sites that will allow you to upload and store many gigs but only allow so much to download from that ..
Ama yaar, aam khaao, ghutlian na gino. There aren't any restrictions. This is like the EMC storage but without encryption. So all you need to do is do your own encrypt/decrypt mechanism.
MSN live.com safe for data! MSN gives bigger space limit. But is the data really safe? I have no proper education about computer hence I can not understand the comments above by learned members like what is and how is done encrypter etc. My undersanding reading the above simple words of English is that MSN live gives large space and data can be placed safely. But is true. Being a non technical person may be I am wrong but my understanding is your data is "safe" no where - I do not mean for the purpose of privacy but for the purpose of length of time except if you are a paid-subscriber. These service providers do offer such attractive things but with the passage of time force you to subscribe paid item. For example MSN has now closed your "Groups" section. MSN earlier closed your free Photos collection advising you to convert to Premium service. Yahoo close your Photos storage. Then silently they closed their "Briefcase" which had a large space for storing your all sort of files. Then they tightened their Geocities. Same thing recently aol did but closing your journals space.
MSN will do the same. It is just a matter of time.
Many sites provide free upload and preserving your files. When you have put much data on it one day you find the site has gone in thin air.
As an ordinary computer user I am convinced the best way is select a good email provider which does not close/clear your account in case not used for a month or two. In the compose section put your file and save it as Draft and keep their. May be I am foolish but my experience is this.
Yes gum I remember x-drive. Are they still in buisiness?
Problem with sights like these is that once they have lured you in and locked your data the free becomes paid. It's like those drug dealer kallus at the corner of your hood, the first joint is always free.
