Re: Lyari operation in Karachi
so the operation is over? this is just insane, what was the point of launching this operation then? 10 police officers give away their lives for this???
**KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday appealed to all political parties to cooperate with the government in maintaining peace in Karachi.**The president, during a meeting with Sindh cabinet members and Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, said that the government is focusing on maintaining peace and protecting life and property in Karachi, and wants to improve the situation in Lyari in an effective manner.
He added that action will be taken against criminal elements and a political solution will also be devised to deal with them.
‘Lyari operation has ended’
After giving a 72-hour deadline to the criminal elements in Lyari, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said on Friday that the operation in Lyari has ended.
Speaking to Express News, Malik said, “We cannot hold the entire area hostage because of mere four-five people. The police and Rangers have only surrounded the area, while the forces have been pulled out from Lyari.”
The interior minister said that maximum electricity will be restored by evening, while telephone lines were restored around 6am in the morning. He said that electricity transformers which were destroyed because of the shelling will be reinstalled in the area, adding that the water supply which was disrupted will also be reconnected.
He said that justice will be done to Uzair Baloch – the head of the banned Peoples Amn Committee (PAC) and “Lyari’s most wanted” – and his accomplices. “If Uzair Baloch does not trust the police then he should surrender before the Rangers.”
“I came on the commands of President Asif Ali Zardari to make sure that the gangsters in Lyari do not try to take law in their hands. If they do so, we will continue to launch indiscriminate action against them which will not be half-hearted. We will chase them wherever they go.”
He said that peace will be restored in the area within the next four-five days.
Police has been involved in an operation to flush out gangsters from Lyari for the last seven days, facing tough resistance from the miscreants.

What a way to say we surrender!
Re: Lyari operation in Karachi
I dont know why I'm surprised ... this was expected from these cowards!
Re: Lyari operation in Karachi
The 8 day operation failed because the good doctor was missing.
BTW from now on the lyari town belongs to uzair balouch. PPP can kiss it good bye.
there was never an operation in lyari. just bunch of policemen shooting in air. Even the police chief was just walking around in kurta, messed up hair and ciggs in his hand.
it was show of power and govt blinked big time.
According to Rehman malik just 4-5 guys defeated 2000 plus FC , policemen and rangers. some morale booster
Re: Lyari operation in Karachi
It was not us versus them scenario, neither the police versus 4-5 people. It's never easy to conduct operations in areas having high population density. A couple of days ago uzair baloch did a jalsa there and thousands of people attended that. It's not a simple mathematical equation that the government was solving. Any tragedy in the area with the media watching would have had far more serious consequences for the government.

True that it isnt easy to conduct an operation when you have about a million people living in the neighborhood. but then why did they go over there with 2000 policemen. they should have just raided the house with elite units and got the man.
or they could have arrested those people when they came out of lyari.
from get go their intention was to just stay at key points and shoot at nobody.
govt shouldnt have done the operation. now they have lost the confidence of people, made the criminals even more hardened and lost their writ. a political solution would have been the best idea, and as plan B they could have just conducted small raids.
its not the gangs of lyari but its the govt who messed the situation.
Re: Lyari operation in Karachi
^ agreed it was not a well thought out operation hence the humiliation in the end, the government should have involved the people of the area to get their men. This operation was creating more miseries for the common man instead of helping them and pushing them towards the militants.

The score:
Lyari: 1
Rehman 'Kuta' Malik: 0
As usual, Rehman Malik is the loser.
Re: Lyari operation in Karachi
^ I think the time has come that the government get rid of Blackmailer Malik (similar to Babar Awan), as this guy has acted like an azaab for the country.
Today I was reading another shosha of his that he is working to have the kill/dump issue (in Balochistan) to be resolved in a week's time. If he can have that issue resolved now does that mean he was complicit during the past two years?

As usual you don't know what your talking about.
Thousands of PPP workers were arrested, tortured, and killed, 'standing up' for ZAB,PPP and democracy.

After his hanging - O hell yea :)
why dodging the question - just tell me the count of people who attended his funeral , that would suffice :)

What a dumb post, as usual.
Shall I go back in time and count how many people were at his funeral??
Better to ask the Army who controlled his death and funeral, a rather obvious point.
You really do make a fool of yourself.
