MQM has no influence in Lyari at all. Problem in Lyari is basically between two ethnic groups who are both PPP supporters. In order to teach MQM a lesson, Mirza chose to arm Makranis in Lyari and supported Rehman Dakait’s Amn Committee. It got the results he wanted. PAC killed several MQM workers. But instead of stopping at MQM it also killed many Urdu speaking people for no reason, got involved in so much extortion that the businessmen went on strike, AND … most important … started bullying and killing Kutchhis as well.
Since Kutchhis and Makranis are both PPP supporters so PPP higher ups had to take side. They chose to unarm the monster Mirza had inflicted on Kutchhis (and Karachi city).
This is the correct decision by PPP. And the presence of criminal gangs is evident from the amount of resistance police is getting at this time.
This fight is not between MQM and PPP but between two factions of PPP living in Lyari.
