I am having guests over for lunch and just cant figure out what to serve. I want it to be quick and easy and yet a little fancy.
Any ideas ?
Re: Lunch ideas
samosas, puff pastry, pakora, dahi ballay, chana chaat, tandoori chicken/bbq chicken, chicken bread, shami kabobs - make any 3-5 of these items along with chana or mutter rice, raita, salad, store bought naan or pita bread and one meat salan (chicken karhai, etc)
these are all pretty simple to make and some of them can be pre-made and just need to be reheated in the oven.
Re: Lunch ideas
or if you dont want to do desi, you can make a sandwich/burger buffet with different types of meats (tuna, chicken salad, chicken breast, beef kabob) and condiments.
Re: Lunch ideas
I agree with nabz, go for a self-assembly style meal.
Burger bar: make 2-3 variations of burger patties, slice different style toppings, and put out the condiments. Then all you have to do is make french fries & salad!
Baked potato bar: bake lots of russet potatoes, slow cook 2-3 different types of barbecue meat, and put out various toppings & condiments.
You can even kick it up a notch and put out different fruit juices for a juice bar. Your guests can mix their drinks.
You get the idea.
Re: Lunch ideas
Are the guests desi? If they are, then do 1 rice dish (biryani, pulao, etc), 1 meat salan (chicken karahi, korma, etc), 1 veggie dish (palak, chanay ,baingan ,etc). You can also include a plate of kababs, but it’s okay if you don’t. Just add roti, salad, and raita and you’ve got a simple but balanced meal.
Re: Lunch ideas
Had some people over for lunch a little while ago and didnt want to be making such heavy or time consuming dishes like biryani, salan etc. that you usually have at dinner dawats. So I also did burgers. Had meat patties, burger buns and then all the dressings and condiments like lettuce, sliced tomatoes, cheese, ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard etc. Also made baked chicken wings, macaroni salad and potato salad. Was a big hit!
Re: Lunch ideas
How about lasagna, garlic cheese bread, and taco salad with a trifle for dessert.
