Lunch idea for Kindergartener

Help!!! she doesn;t want to eat ? what do i do ? What can i pack in her lunch that would be enough for her ?
I feel a failure.

Lunch ideas for Kindergarten

Please give me some ideas from your experience. Quick things that do not require too much preparation will be appreciated.

I feel so exhausted and today I opened a tuna jar and my MIL commented we shouldn’t give her junk (How is it junk!). Gave her steamed veggies which she likes but didn;t want to eat durnig lunch. Chicken sandwich … it is so common and she is bored now.

I feel a failure … or I am just frustrated. Tomorrow she is just getting choori and that is it.
Why do i spend so much time in kitchen if she doesn’t want to eat.

Re: Lunch ideas for Kindergarten

Tuna is really healthy, not sure how it could fall under junk…
Wraps are a good way to make a sandwich less boring. Just roll everything up in a tortilla that you would otherwise put in a sandwich. Use different deli meats- roast beef, turkey, or shred leftover chicken or beef from last night’s dinner to use as sandwich meat.

And don’t feel bad, I don’t know any kindergartener who would eat steamed veggies for lunch without mommy standing next to them. Try baby carrots, cucumbers, or just give her fruits and stuff the veggies in her when she gets home.

Re: Lunch ideas for Kindergarten

Pasta. You can make spaghetti, ziti, macaroni and cheese. Vary the pasta, she can have fun with the various shapes they come in. And vary the ingredients…keema, chicken, veggies, etc.

Stir-fry…is another way to incorporate veggies.

Soups…if she likes them.

Vary the sandwiches. If she’s done chicken, then do keema…or shami kabab, or peanut-butter, etc. Or as suggested above…you can also do wraps…like a soft taco even. Does she like bagels? If so, you can give her bagel with cream cheese or another spread of her choice. You can do bagel sandwich.

Cutlets

Rice…like Chinese rice.

Stuffed pastries..with a meat or veggie filling.

Pizza

Instead of steamed veggies…give her raw veggies with along with her favorite dressing.

You can make things like kababs/cutlets in advance and freeze them to save time.

Re: Lunch ideas for Kindergarten

Have you noticed what she enjoys to eat mostly? I forgot what my mother used to do with my brother because he was one picky eater. Tuna isn’t junk,
I remember my mom’s scare tactics on me since I was a picky kindergardner :p.

Try different variations of sandwiches. Breaded chicken either baked or fried whatever you want to do. I remember liking different shaped chicken nuggets. Shami kebabs are a hit with kids. My mom says kids like plain pasta with butter a lot. Veggies will probably be hard. What about an egg sandwich?

Re: Lunch idea for Kindergartener

What does she likes to eat?

Re: Lunch ideas for Kindergarten

noodles , mini pizza , mini burgers , sandwiches , chicken nuggets , paratha roll , boiled egg , cake slices etc … give her cucumber , carrots , fruits as a 2nd option with her main lunch.

Re: Lunch ideas for Kindergarten

Nuggets n croquettes :yummy:

Re: Lunch ideas for Kindergarten

Thank you every one for all your suggestions ! Very helpful indeed.
I am in better morale right now! Made her paratha roll :bummer: which came back with just one bite taken. Gave her baby carrots and small box of yogurt which she finished and cup of milk … hmm when you talk about it I think she ate few things. Just not enough for my liking though.

Tomorrow macroni with chicken and veggies. I am happy even if she eats chicken and macrono as long as she eats. Next day is Chicken sandwich. I think i should make a menu for the week. Tomorrow or day after tomorrow i will make her sandwich Inshallah. Week finished … phewww .

It is not easy raising a child. How did my mother do it with four (one after another).

Re: Lunch idea for Kindergartener

she like carrots … yogurt … fruits … brocolli but not a complete meal.

Re: Lunch idea for Kindergartener

Give her some gogo yogurt, carrots or broccoli, whatever fruits she likes, maybe a really smaller container of pasta or sliced chicken or hotdog, etc. Children love variety and small portions.

Re: Lunch idea for Kindergartener

That is what i have done today so lets see.

Re: Lunch idea for Kindergartener

I’d say make a list of the lunches you wish to try and monitor how she responds to each meal. Then if you can make the items she likes in bulk and freeze them. That way if little one is keen on something in particular and you are eager for her to eat something healthy you can simply pull something out of the freezer. I second the motion that Tuna is healthy. Oily fish is also needed for brain development.

Re: Lunch idea for Kindergartener

I just made some boneless chicken (salt pepper and just a touch of garlic) and froze it. It will be used for her pasta, Chicken sandwiches.
For tuna sandwich … do you guys take it straight out of tin ? is is healthy ? anything i need to look out for ?

ps. I found out she likes garlic bread so that is menu today and I made a menu tooo .Thanks for everyones input really appreciated.

Re: Lunch idea for Kindergartener

Everyone has really good suggestions here…Honestly, think of the times when we were in school and how we never liked the ‘healthy’ foods moms sent, unless it was made really appealing haha. Also, one suggestion…download Pinterest and you’ll get awesome ideas as to how you can incorporate juices, fruits, dry fruit, sandwiches etc into a kids school lunch…try hummus and pita too

Re: Lunch idea for Kindergartener

oh she loves hummus .. i can try that \

does anyone know if i can freeze hummus :bummer:

Re: Lunch idea for Kindergartener

The hummus you get from the grocery store will last for weeks.
