Why is Islamic calender based on lunar movement? What is the “hikmat” in it?

we have two options. either sun or moon.
sun is big, in fact bigger than earth. so hum us ko dekhain na dekhain wo niklay ga. but for moon> chand ko humesha dhoondhana perta hai. 
p.s. lunar months actually gives us varity that every year to have months in a different season. therefore we dont face any monotonous
p.s. sorry cant think more at this time. so just take my these 2 cents words.

My guess is that was the easiest way to keep track of months, Lunar cycle is always either 29 days or 30 days........:)

Understand that this is a "HUKUM" from Allah ( azzo wa ja'al), It is in the Quran. There is a lot of things we do, b/c it is a HUKUM, there may not be reasoning in it for the humans, but is a great hikma of Allah ( azzo wa ja'al), for the humans.
Like for example: During our prayers what is the reasoning behind all the actions perfomed to complete a salaat, Allah ( azzo wa ja'al), commanded us and we do it. That is what Islam is...Submission to Allah ( azzo wa ja'al), ..............................
.....and Allah ( azzo wa ja'al) knows best !!

I accept this. But my question is can you implement it in your daily lives? Can you grow your crops according to a lunar-based calender?

the waxing moon, which is the growing moon from new to full. That’s when the moisture level in the soil is at it’s highest and when you should do your planting.
the waning moon which is from full to last quarter. That’s when the moisture content is at its lowest and there’s less sap rising in your trees and shrubs so it’s when you should do your pruning.

Nothing is FIXed and Final on earth… every thing is changing and changeable…
Sighting of the Moon has to be withing the boundary of the state you live and from the ground (included big building as they are on the ground)
Plus you get real excitement while Searching the moon, the whole nation have a celebration on each ‘chand raat’, that also gives some joy and happiness to the nation, … so these are pluses other than the real ‘hikmat’ of Allah :swt:

From my understanding we use the Sun for prayers times an so to show that the sun was not that important and just a method of assessing time, our months were broken into lunar month using another another method.

^^ Oh Mos , ya Know Unix, the operating system ? Whois us mein ek command hote hai , well its same in Linux as well . Basically it grabs you the information regarding the name or host you wish to identify.
And the correct syntax is
*whois -h host ] identifier *
*( see no space btw who and is ) *
hope it makes sense mate
