LUMS or IBA

Which would be the better option for MBA in your opinion?

depends on so many parameters. Specify which ones you are interested in?

depends on where do you want a job after yr mba.
want to stay in kar, go to iba.
if you want to stay in lhr, go to lums.

if u just want a better education, ppl say its lums def.
tho in that case u shouldn't be doing business in the first place.

id choose lums over iba anyday

the overall experience is better and nicer in lums

seems like a more wholesome and relaxed place

iba campus is crowded, lums faculty is better

but iba has one edge over luma, it really pushes u to the hilt and grinds u so much that u r prepared very well for the local market. its extremely competitve, cut throat competition, and it sharpens ur street skills and smartens u...lums is a more mummy daddy type cushioned environment

Re: LUMS or IBA

LUMS :)

LUMS

lums can turn out to be a bad choice if you are plannig to work in kar.
there is an iba alumni monopoly in all the business sectors, which love to hire ibaians, and will give them preference over you.
its all about where you want to work ultimately.

Does LUMS stand for Lahore University of Muralitharan Studies?

Irem, you have NO idea about Lums MBA environment. First of all, the pprogram follows 'case-studies' method which is i m not sure is followed in IBA. Lums MBA are the most hardworking and pushed-to-the-wall students. The drop out ratio is high because some students cant cope up with the workload.

The cushioned environment you mentioned is applicable to BS students. They really enjoy a lot while studying. Graduate students, unfortunately, cannot enjoy such luxariuos environment.

One edge that IBA has over LUMS is that it has a stronger network. But then again it should because it is a much older university than LUMS.

I know several people who went to IBA and from what I understand the MBA programme there is also case study based

^ yeah thats why i said that i was not sure. But hope my point is clear

the edge you guys have mentioned that iba has over lums is a very significant one in my opinion. strong alumni base helps a lot, like a poster above said, it matters a lot in recruitment too.

:hoonh: i have a very good idea acha :snooty:

well jus from my own interaction with LUMS/IBA students, and I’ve met many of both, I have seen this certain SHARPNESS and TEZI in iba students which I haven’t seen in LUMS ppl. [im not saying if thats a good thing or not but yeah IBA students seem to be more sharp n street smart, IBA sharpens them i think]. LUMS environment is more cushioned and preppy overall as compared to IBA in that sense.

i was not saying “cushioned” from the POV of academic requirements, im sure LUMS requires a lot of hours of study per week, in fact LUMS faculty is much much better, i meant “cushioned” in other ways. IBA makes u street smart and tez to deal with the pakistani market, and the environment there is fast and cut throat, i dont think its like that at LUMS? not that i personally would even prefer that sharp and fast environment but i think its certainly something ive noticed.

Irem--Like I said, you did not meet an MBA, right? You met an undergrad student. They surely are cushioned. I am talking about graduate studens. Let me give you an example. There was an IBA undergrad who came to LUMS MBA program. She was this least confident, lazy and least-interested student. But when she graduated, she was in honours roll list and her confidence can be measured from the fact that she was picked as a media manager of a top multinational company. That is the personality transformation LUMS MBAs go through.

RainMaker-- Yes I agree that strong network is a big plus. But you have to consider that LUMS have built a network in just 15 years which is threatening an IBA network of over 50 years. So LUMS is edging close to IBA network with every graduating batch.

saby: you man! my-lums can kick your iba-ass any day :hehe: innit?

I agree with the consensus above broadly..especially the network and job market one…and also with the tezi bit :~) i am out there in the market and take 'em lums-ones head on day in and day out.
