Lump on neck

Hi Guys

Wondering if someone can help me..hubby has had a small lump on his neck…near the neck bone…since like december…sorry for too much info..but some pus did come out of it..but its not like a spot as such…

since then the lump has increased in size and is proper round…it hurts him and his neck is quite stiff by the evening…we have shown it to one doctor and he gave him Flucloxacillin which he has taken for 5 days but its had no effect…even doc was unsure if medicine would work..

im concerned that this may be GOD FORBID a swollen lymph node? Has anyone experienced this?

Im planning to take him to emergency doc tonight because im too worried about what it is.

Someone put my mind at rest…

Thanks

Re: Lump on neck

P.S its not a lipoma...as I have had them before and this is not like that...

Re: Lump on neck

I have had swollen lymph nodes before below the ear on the neck they are tiny and hard but have never increased in size and usually go away within a week or two. As your husband has had it since December and it is growing in size i would go to the doctors to get it checked out asap . It's better to be safe hope it all goes well

Re: Lump on neck

No advice as such hun, just go & get it checkd.

Re: Lump on neck

^ Agreed, get it checked, no offence but you should have gotten your husband to get it checked ages before.

Re: Lump on neck

yup I know...ive been bugging him since dec but he ignores it..typical..

anyways i did call doc and spoke to him directly and mentioned that could it be cancerous God forbid as he saw him last week when he gave him the medicine and he laughed it off saying dont read too many books!!!

Hes saying its not 2 worry and hubby is gonna go 4 another appt so he can prescribe another medication..

That kinda puts me at peace for now...

Re: Lump on neck

Obv the doctor knows best but has the lump been examined proeprly?

Some doctors have the habit of just prescribing medicenes without looking at the problem

Re: Lump on neck

Flucloxacillin is used to treat skin and chest infections....likely the doctor believes the lump to be a boil or a carbuncle.

Please do come back and give us some feedback after you have visited the doctor again......

Re: Lump on neck

Hi Guys

To provide you with an update...registered with a new doc today who is much better!! They have said its nuffin 2 worry abt an most probably an ingrown hair..they have prescribed higher dose of medicine and inshallah that should fix it...If God forbid it doesnt then he will be referred to hospital and they may need to operate...but she reckons high dose should do the trick inshallah...

phew!

Re: Lump on neck

a cancerous lump wouldnt produce pus, pus is a sign of infection or imflammation. I would have given Flucloxacillin first too as that is used to treat skin infections (ive never seen it been used for chest infections but hey), your new doc has probs given him some sort of stronger anti biotic, inshallah that will work!

If it doesnt work then yeah it will be a small operation to remove the infected area.

Just for information on neck lumps...THIS IS GENERAL INFORMATION NOT ANY HARD OR FAST RULES...ALWAYS GO TO DOCTORS TO BE CHECKED OUT AND EXAMINED PROPERLY.

Neck lumps which are painful, hot, red and produce pus are generally local infection so like a boil or abscess or ingrown hair

Neck lumps which are painful and round...swollwn lymph node

Neck lumps which are NOT PAINFUL, rubbery, craggy, irregular in shape..Might be cancerous

Neck Lumps could be a thousand different things.....thyroid, salivary gland stones, cysts etc

Its best not to worry until you need to but ALWAYS GO TO THE DOCTOR as tabu did :)
