Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s latest production ‘3 Idiots’ stars Aamir Khan in the lead role. But surprisingly, Aamir was not the first choice for this film. The role was first offered to Shah Rukh Khan but King Khan refused to be a part of the film due to his differences with Chopra. And as ‘3 Idiots’ has gone on to become the biggest hit ever in Hindi cinema, Shah Rukh’s has become Aamir’s gain.
Shah Rukh then has no choice but to repent over the lost opportunity. Interestingly, this is not the first time that Shah Rukh said no to a Vidhu Vinod Chopra film. In the past the Badshah of Bollywood was offered the lead role in ‘Munnabhai MBBS’. But due to his back problems during then he could not be a part of the film. And as we know the role later on went to Sanjay Dutt and the sequel of this film ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ won national awards.
Another interesting case in point is a more recent film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. In this Danny Boyle direction, Shah Rukh was offered to play the role of a quiz host in the film. Lucky for Anil Kapoor, that he accepted the offer which unlucky Shah Rukh rejected, ‘Slumdog’ won many Oscars changing Anil’s fate totally. Here once again Shah Rukh’s loss became Anil’s gain.
SRK was also approached for Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s ‘Rang De Basanti’… But as they say one successful film can turn the fate of an actor… the role went to Aamir Khan and look what the film did to him. Not just Aamir’s performance in this youth oriented film won him many accolades, it went on to become super successful. Another time it was proved that Shah Rukh’s loss is somebody else’s gain, in this case it was Aamir again.
Incidentally, every film that Shah Rukh turned down was a superhit. But who knows if his presence in these films could have helped them reach new level of success…
considering srk in the first place for all these films does show that srk is a talented man thats why all these directors approached him first- on the other hand him declining the offers (if all this is true) then thats just his bad luck but he is still very popular...

no i dont think so thats his bad luck ........sanjay n amir did a great job too.......n ya SRK is a damn popular guy ......
^ yeah i know in filmon ko na karne se uski popularity main koi farq nahi aya...but if he had done them it would have been great....as for sanjay he was good in mbmbbs and amir was good in 3 idiots while in rdb he was ok nothing great....
after i heard the way amir treated jia khan i dont like him anymore..yet srk treats his co-stars with so much respect ..in his shows too..he s more humble even though he no.1
Had Shahrukh done these movies they wouldn't have been as successful and good as they were because of him not being in these movies! Shahrukh is good at doing the usual easy cheesy roles which suit him as well...these roles offered to him had depth to them...so i say it was a wise choice he made because he probably knows his limitations of six expressions only haha.
