It may not be entirely in line with Islamic teaching but some of its common sense.
Every culture believes in bad as well as good luck, as well as norms and values and symbolism.
So please share different teachings from your cultures, symbols and meaning would be great but also proverbs and sayings…
I shall begin.
In Southern Tibet as a form of greeting they stick thier tongue out towards you and wriggle it while making strange ullating sounds. This is to welcome you and scare away any bad luck or evil spirits that might be coming with you.
In the West sticking your toungue out is considered very rude in most places and to waggle it while making such a noise would cause much disturbance to those whom you greeted in such a manner.
Re: Luck?
Take 5 (Laant dikhana) is a very bad thing in Sindhi culture. Sometimes, it can cause killing. There is a famous saying in Sindhi which translated : Do logon ka kuch nahin bigaRa ja sakta.. ek wo jo munh pe jhoot bole doosra wo jo darya ke doosre kinare khaRa hoke laanat dikhae
Re: Luck?

Oh dear…
In India I believe it is bad luck for a Hindu Wife to have her Marraige mark smothered. If this happens they believe there will be terrible luck or its considered a matter of great shame but I cannot understand the exact details perhaps others can shed more light.
In West africa it is normal for men who are very good friends to great one another by shaking hands and then sweeping the hands over ones own head. Its considered a mark of great respect to the other person though this is ussually done by the younger ones towards the elders.
Re: Luck?
well in india i think they believe while going for any good cause u should eat yougart, it will bring good luck and they always say "mei ata hun" not 'mei ja raha hun" they think mei ja raha hun is not good in speaking
Re: Luck?
I did not know about the coming and going aspect but it sure does make sense.
Re: Luck?
It only happens in Ekta Kapoor’s soaps
Re: Luck?
In Sindh, happening of a bad thing during the month of safar (second month of Islamic calendar) is considered very bad, because happening of things in Safar means it will be repeated again. Peopel don’t marry in Safar. If in a family, a daughter is born in Safar, it is believed that there will be no son in family. my elder sister was born in Safar and after two years, I followed her in Rabi u Sani
Re: Luck?
Ekta Kapoor?
Nevermind I dont watch much soaps in fact I havent watched Television for over 6 months at least. Even the Euro games could not make me switch on the telly.
Speaking of Telly they say in the West if you break a mirror its seven years bad luck. I wonder how many years bad luck you would get for breaking a tv becuase it contains all the important ingredients in a mirror, I:E Glass, reflective material, lenses and so on…

Re: Luck?
It was also famous that a mole on neck of a person means that he/she will be killed. Back in 90's when Benazir came back from exile, it was said that she got a mole on neck, so she will be killed like her father :(
Re: Luck?

Oh and leaving the cattle or other livestock out too late in the fog is considered bad too becuase the fog can conceal evil spirits and beings who will mingle in with the herds when you bring them home.

death on religious occasion is also considered good in Muslims. Death in Ramadan means automatic forgiveness for some people. Madam Noorjehan died on 27th Ramadan, the most revered day for Muslims.
