Loyalty..

What does it mean to you when it comes to you and your employer? How passionately do you think one should be in terms of driving force behind the company? I think it’s a fairly open discussion. What if the monetary compensation from your employer is not what you deserve, BUT at the same time, the employer has invested great deal in your ideas, and overall provided a great setup that has helped towards maturing your talent level. Would you stick around if other opportunity comes around which offers more, or you would take it as and stay with your original game plan which you set out when you initially joined the company and help it open more avenues, hence, increasing company’s revenues as well as your income potential.

I think in a big company, it may not matter much. But, in a small setup like ours, a person taking off can have significant effects. I dig the challenges, and feel that I owe for what my boss has done for me. At the same time, I overwork myself out, spending hours and hours relentlessly. But it’s something, which has to be done. After almost spending a year here, the results are not exceptionally great, or we haven’t had a breakthrough yet. But, I love the aspect that clients have invested in some of the solutions that I have put forward. With some good marketing, I think we can meet our goals. And as a developer, this can be a great feeling that what you are doing, or the solutions you devise are indeed needed. At the same time, if I were to go out and look for employment in my areas of specialty, then, I am confident that I can probably find it within a short period of time. However, it would also gives me a feeling of being disloyal to some aspect, as I would be walking away from some of my own initiations, and that gives it a feeling of mission unaccomplished…not sure…just feel like writing few lines…

hey outlaw

maybe i am being selfish but i think its OK to quit your job and go for a better one if you get an offer where you are being paid more or you like it better. maybe you should let your employer know and if they realise your worth [which they should!] and specially b/c someone else in the market is willing to pay you that much [and they can prolly afford it too] they can always make a better offer to you haena if they want to keep you?

why should you make sacrifices for your employer just out of respect for being loyal to the job? if you've got solid reasons to stick there thats another thing. in fact if you have the thought at the back of your mind that you have better offers, it might even affect your performance. i've seen even founding members of companies leave for greener pastures...[though in that case i might think hard abt it], but in the case of an employee who is not among the owners i dont think this issue should arise...

everyone does it bro....the company i work for is a small one, yet i've seen people leave when they get better opportunities...

i dont think its being disloyal...its a silently understood thing...the original commitment with your employer is not binding you to stay :) it would be another thing if you had promised something and went back on that but that is not the case here.

and hey its just a job after all, not anything personal to take so seriously :)
