Loyalty vs Conformity?

You think that you can be loyal to your company without conforming with the management?

If your vision and values match and your goals and their timeline is aligned with the opportunities and your pace/path at that organization.

Re: Loyalty vs Conformity?

Bhai X2 kuch samajh mein nahi aaya.

Re: Loyalty vs Conformity?

Management is put in place by the company. Without being on the same page as management, it is not clear how one can be productive.

Re: Loyalty vs Conformity?

Say productivity isn't the issue. Its loyalty that's in question. What would be your pov on that?

Re: Loyalty vs Conformity?

The management represents the company. If one is not on the same page as management, one should try to be. Or leave.

It's not absolute though. Loyalty to team, business unit, parent company, holding conglomerate, private equity owners...it's easier said than done.

Loyalty is time and role based too. Eg I am okay at a certain role, I am loyal but if what I want to do and at what pace of upward movement is not aligned with what the company has planned, then I may be loyal for the period that I am on my plan, after that I leave.

I must say it's less about loyalty and more about interests now. If they are balanced for a particular duration , great.

Re: Loyalty vs Conformity?

organization need loyalty

It's a two way street. Organization need to show loyalty by investing in the workers, providing them competitive wages and benefits, not slicing and dicing at first hiccup in quarterly results.

Right now the very low loyalty in US is because of how companies have treated employees in the last 6-7 years. Those who have been at work for a while probably saw it twice, right after 9-11 when things slowed and then 2008-9 onwards. As job market improves you will see huge turnover.

If companies are going to treat employees like easily removed or swapped cogs in a machine. Employees will go in mercenary mode too.

Re: Loyalty vs Conformity?

Agree with X2. While a person is doing a job he needs to be 100 pct "loyal" to his mission or task. If he finds his interests are not aligned with company in terms of advancement he needs to look elsewhere. Father than stick with the company and provide half hearted performance.

Re: Loyalty vs Conformity?

I stuck with the organisation for over a year because of loyalty, that is a big mistake because I showed loyalty to the company, but the management didn't really appreciate it and in the end, I lost out on promotion and salary hike as well as a career path disaster which I am yet to recover from.

So, yeah....loyalty will take you only so far, being a bit selfish is my motto

I need to wrap my mind around the term loyalty in the corporate world. You need to be ethical, smart and efficient team player. Unfortunately, that still does not guarantee any promotion, but it does guarantee a professional growth.

Who could be more loyal to Apple company than Steve Jobs in 1985. He was the founder of the company, but his visions were clashing with the board of directors', so he was let go.
