alright.. what are some of the tips on how to make our desi dishes better and low cholesterol…
I now some of the dishes just can’t be altered but lets worry about the common everyday dishes like chicken salan, daal etc that are cooked often.. how can we make sure that they are all low cholesterol..?
When my mum cooks salan, she cooks it in very little oil (less than half of what you would normally use). She starts by browning the onions on a very very low heat with the lid on. This gives you a good base for the salan without need for extra oil. But it does take more time, and you won't get oil floating to the top like you would in a normal salan, but tastes just as good.
yes floating oil is what i am trying to reduce.. lol.. not that my cholesterol is high or anything but just looking at the current lifestyle that i am living anything healthy should be adapted by me.. eating more fruits, eating more vegs.. but when i go home over weekends.. man its all khana khana khana.. mom bhi na...
Fiber sticks to cholesterol and removes it with the excretory process.
Source: "Your body does not actually digest dietary fiber. Instead, soluble fiber sits in your large intestine where it is fermented by bacteria. During fermentation, some free fatty acids are produced. The process is not entirely understood, but one of these fatty acids travels to your liver and tells it to produce less cholesterol, resulting in a reduction of total cholesterol levels."
Try eating an apple everyday..an easy way to get fiber.
