Low calibre of Pakistani movies

How come Pakistani dramas are so much better in quality than the films? Why the hell should our public have to resort to watching Indian propaganda films when they could be watching ours?

The film industry is a big let-down in Pakistan, lagging far behind the music and tv scenes. It’s not just about budget either, the quality of direction is atrocious. Over-dramatic close-ups accompanied by daft sound effects. It’s almost as cringe-worthy as some of the big song and dance routines done in the Indian films - you know what I mean - 50 men and women doing a Michael Jackson routine

Where is the writing talent? Where is the directorial talent? Are we just not providing a suitable environment to realise our potential?

Where is the writing talent? Where is the directorial talent?

They are all in India, brother.

They are all in India, brother.

India produces a slicker version of crap. That's all. There is no originality, no true reflection of Indian culture, just an indianised version of Hollywood movies. Pakistani movies might be low budget and for the most part pretty rubbish, but at least they are reflecting their own reality and not someone else's.

I just think they could do it a little more professionally.

The fact of the matter is that Pakistan doesn't really spend enough money on their movies, rather they are mostly focused on their dramas, which they're doing a darn good job at it.
In the otherhand, India spends more money on their films than they do on 1 billion people dying of povety.

Thank you, come again

U r so right Mr. X treme.....

…ur so damn right Umair

“The only way to have a friend is to be one.”

There u go !! Two bloated egos making statements in the air and one miss Pak lapping them all up..'U are so darn right '.

Umair, ever so stupid, talks about India spending money on making films rather than in eradicating poverty !! Have you heard a more intellect-insulting statement.
Boss, there is no budgetary allocations made yet for Bollywood movies in India (wouldn’t know about Pak though

).Films are basically business ventures by their producers, wiseass.
And you Mr. Xtreme, films are basically made for entertainment in india, to give the audience a chance to release the pain and hardships/frustrations from daily life.
They are most of the times not made to depict reality to impress intellectuals like you !!
And please, I cannot take any more bull-shit about Pak Dramas.

Most of the Pak Dramas are same if you have seen a few you have seen all....same costumes, homelife and dialogues, most of them are shot inside homes.

Most Indian movies are not of great standard either...but you do get great ones inbetween .....like Rudali, Umarao Jaan...Izazzat etc. Indian music is excellent. I downloaded Pakistani music and deleted all of it with the exception of Nusrat Ali Shah...most singers have no voice and the music is second class- I love all kinds of music it has nothing to do with Pakistani or Indian angle.

First of all I am not a big fan of Hindi movies. I haven’t seen one for a long time.

But you guys don’t get the point. If we try and make the so called “intellectual” stuff that you keep talking about, they wouldn’t make money. It’s all right to say that its an art form but it’s also a business. We had the “parallel cinema” movement in the 70s and early 80s where hosts of “artsy” movies were made depicting the “real” India (meaning showing some slums in Calcutta). Some of them were good while some I didn’t even understand. We keep having these film festivals in India where different (and radical) movies were shown from all around the world. But these movies were fine once in a while but I would never want to watch them every second Friday. On the other hand some Amitabh movies offered more entertainment value however silly they might seem. Not surprisingly, “artsy” movies are not made so frequently these days – they are just not viable.

As far as Pakistan is concerned, I’ve noticed that there seems to be absolutely no respect for people who are in the film industry. This was the situation in India in the early days when not too many people from “good” families chose a career in films. With this kind of attitude how are you going to create an industry. Another argument I have always noticed is that, India can’t feed its millions, but are making films, exploding bombs, talks big about software etc. As if being poor should be the reason for not being ambitious. No one thinks how much revenue is generated by the film industry, or that how many people are employed by the industry.

On the flip side, when I see those 100 odd dancers doing the “Michael Jackson routine”, I feel happy that at least 100 odd people have been employed – not to mention the number of tailors for their clothes or make-up artists, choreographers etc..

come-on! u must admit there are some good pak movies, the old time classics, and some new releases such as chooriyahn, nikki jahi haan, syed noor is one of the best directors in pakistan, he has the industry ka boj on his kanday,

as far as pakistani dramas are concerened i agree they are much better than films, and can be watched with family,

Very good duniya, Very Bad Loag

Hiz-bull and BK,

There is no way that I like arty films, I don't know why you got that impression. My point about Indian movies are that they are unoriginal, and corny beyond belief, with a few notable exceptions. Hollywood cinema is in a different league, with better plots, less shmaltz (is that a jewish word?) more variety. Indian film producers have the financial muscle to produce high quality films yet still they can't get past Salman Khan doing a dance routine without his shirt.

As for Pakistani movies, I refuse to accept that low budget = bad movies. I haven't seen many Pak movies but I saw ChooriyaN and that was pretty good. I saw a clip of an old b&w movie, and was shocked to see that it looked much better than today's efforts. Standards have slipped and something should be done about it.

Mr Xtreme,u do make sense

I have to disagree. Maybe ur not into that type of music but Pakistani music right now is really doing good all over the world. Why do Indian movies copy them all the time then?? Oh and Rani ji, its Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

This guy Xtreme sure has a lot of female fan following here

!

Xtreme Indian movies and filmi music is made to please the lowest common denominator. Formula films work because that is what people want and that is what they get. Its all about money like any business.

The average movie goer will not be able to digest a meaningful movie, it is cheap entertainment and Bollywood has great abilities to give cheap thrills to an unsophisticated audience. Pakistan film industry cant even do that which is a shame in itself.
