Low Cal vs Low Carb - which is more effective?

So right now I am looking into different kinds of diets.

Ones that won’t leave me sluggish, tired and drained of energy or give me that fainting feeling.

But also ones that work and work fast.

The obvious answer is to restrict your calories and start working out.

But is it better to restrict carbs or to restrict calories?

What is more effective and will deliver quicker results as well as be safe?

Low Cal vs Low Carb - which is more effective?

It depends a lot on how your body metabolizes...for people like me, with PCOS, cutting out simple/processed carbs and starchy foods (most "white" things) has been recommended by a nutritionist I'm talking to. I'm also staying within a set caloric goal on top of eliminating certain foods.

Re: Low Cal vs Low Carb - which is more effective?

How about a combo of both? You could lower your calorie count while eating lower/more complex carbs. Eating lower/complex carbs is better for you anyway.. so it'll work out better and you'll achieve your goal faster :) Lower calorie count doesn't always mean you'll be eating healthier foods

Re: Low Cal vs Low Carb - which is more effective?

My limit is 1200 calories - starting as soon as I have the guts to and a plan in place for those moments when carb cravings hit and I mess up.

But many low carb foods are high in calorie content. Its strange...you'd assume that low carb would also mean low calorie - that's not always the case.

Re: Low Cal vs Low Carb - which is more effective?

That's truee..
I'm not a fan of calorie counting so I guess I can't really support it much.. whenever I need to watch what I eat, I just eat healthy stuff instead of calorie counting. Avocado is high in fat and calories but I would still include it in my diet if I was trying to lose weight.

How many calories are you taking right now? Is your current diet high in carbs? If I was in your place, I would probably lower my carbs and try to maintain the calorie at 1200 too. Sooo instead of rice, replace it with salad etc. Eat smaller portions and throughout the day... I eat around 6 times a day so I'm never hungry because if I am, then I eat everything in sight :(

Definitely low carb in my experience. I have lost 23 lbs in just one month with no exercise at all and a couple of cake-filled cheat days.... and it has stayed off too.

Re: Low Cal vs Low Carb - which is more effective?

Low fat with low carb, do not cut them out totally, but definitely cut sugar, processed carbs and bread. I'm following slimming world and it is really good...extremely low fat as in, you are cooking stuff without oil, butter or any kind of grease.
