Lovelace

Linda Lovelace. I had not heard of her until this movie came out, but I read the reviews, and thought, who is this woman?? And then found out about her book, the Ordeal, and last night I pretty much creeped myself out (could not for the love of God go to bed in the dark), watching a documentary in which her husband (post-Linda’s death) described what he did - the beatings and such - without any sense of remorse or knowledge of wrong doing.

I’m not going to get into the greusomes of what he did to her, but it’s shocking to me that even in this day and age, we can’t stand up and say “This woman was raped”, and burn all her videos. Remarkable. She writes in her book: Those of you watching me, are watching a woman getting raped.

Makes one wonder whether all the adult film stars are to some extent victims of abuse. And whether we as a humanity just seem to think it’s not a crime to sexually abuse a woman.

She has bruises in the videos that were made of her. So people are watching these videos for decades for entertainment, and elevating their value as the first mainstream lewd videos as if we’ve accomplished something, and no one notices the bruises? What really surprised me about this story is how people - even mainstream regular couples - were open about watching the showing of these films. No one noticed bruises? Jeeeeeeez.

I’m not sure if I want to see the current movie on the girl. So creeped out by it all. That Hollywood even made a movie where they show her enjoying it. Urgh.
