WitchDr- He is traditional - some people have those expectations. It would have been easier to deal with if I had known up front, but I didn't.
He never allowed my MIL to handle the finances, and thinks that women cannot be trusted to manage money.

Ok, here is my will. 20% goes to ammi, 10% to 1 sister, 5% each to the other sister and brother, 20% to the wife and 40% to set up a fund, by my brother to take care of my bachoN ke finances. Shukria, now stop twisting my arm.

^ I think you need to review the islamic guidelines of inheritence. There are set amounts that each one of your dependents receives... :)

How ironic, I just had this discussion with a banda yesterday. On the one hand he says he doesn't care what I do (even if I'm a social worker), as long as I'm doing something, on the other hand he is extremely impressed by women who are able to earn a decent income. I asked him if he'd expect me to contribute financially to the household income and he gave a roundabout answer, even though he has an above average income. And Islamically speaking, whatever a woman earns is hers alone. I expect to be looked after and have a choice of staying home or not.
I don't like money-obsessed people - fine, he did throw it in my face that I'd never marry a poor guy, but at the same time I'd rather marry a poor guy with a big heart than a rich guy constantly running after money - seriously!
I told him I could earn more than him if I wanted, and it got him so happy and excited. I was like :-|

I will definately bring up money if i ever decide to go to the alter. I have to because I have student loans and they are getting larger by the minute, due to grad school. smile
Plus, I have certain projects in mind and I would like to discuss that because I want someone in my life who will be supportive and give ideas, and not feel I am throwing away money by doing that. I can sooo not use the tension and stress that comes along with financial arguments.
