I just heard some of his talks, and if it wasnt for his NOI leanings, ie if he was a normal muslim-this brother would be the most amazing and charismatic speaker I have heard since recordings of Malcolm X-his views on some issues hit home and are perfectly online with my views on those issues.
If he was only a regular muslim, and not NOI, we would have a tycoon of a speaker. Greater orator then Imam hamza Yusuf.

I have some deep ideological differences with LF, but his ability to speak from the heart and captivate the collective conscience of his audience is quite unrivalled in all the speakers I've heard in the modern world.

Farrakan's views are warped but yes he is a great orator.
I only respect him for his speaking skills, his views are not in line with my progressive Islamic beliefs.
He sounds no different than a Catholic priest singing to his choir.. in a VERY high pitch. Black rhetoric, nothing more. You can easily replace the words "Allah" with "Jesus" in his speeches.
Ana, do you know who Farrakhan is? His style may be suited to a Baptist preacher or other type holy-roller, but I have never witnessed a Catholic preist use his politicalization, patriarchal, reactionary, inflammatory, and messianic tone. And the attributes he gives to Allah could hardly be something a priest would say of Jesus.
In that case Seminole, you have never been to a church on Chicago's South Side.. ok, not really south south, but south enuf. Some of the Catholic priests in that area, they're pretty vocal during Sunday mass about what is "right" and who is "wrong". You can hear church-goers "yay"ing all the way till the back of the hall. Hell, you can hear the preacher even if u r standing outside the brick buildings. They're pretty "good" orators too you know, and their congregations are just as much patriarchial when they're inside those church walls, as any masjid mandir goer.
The only reason Louis Farakhan gets so much flank is because he's got a much bigger organization backing him, and he seems to get more vocal with every speech he gives. Christian priests send out just as much reactionary and inflammatory garbage as he does, and I've heard quite a bit of it. People coming out of those churches are as high as if they were on opium. And 90% of the people are poor, just like Farakhan's dumb audience.

I agree that some protestant preachers can be just as reactionary and spew just as much garbage as does Farrakhan. I still stand by my statement that the Catholic priests I have listened to do not approach his rhetorical, foot stomping style. As far as your reason as to why he gets so much flack - what is this organization that backs him that is much bigger than the Catholic organization in this country? The reason he gets so much flack is because of his separationist, racist, confrontational, anti-semitical views that try to merge politics, race and spirituality.
