***This is my very first post on this forum and this is the only reason why I joined these forums in the first place. I’ve been following the threads on here for a while and was waiting for the right time to come so I could join…and that moment has ARRIVED!! :halo:
I’m an Indian living in India, with distant Pakistani roots. Although people often say that there isnt much difference between people from either side of the border, for some reason the idea of Pakistan has always fascinated me. A large part of it stems from my ridiculous interest in Pakistani food, literature and CLOTHES!!
In my head I’d imagined what all i would do if i ever get a chance to roam the by-lanes of Pindi or spend a leisurely evening on food street in Lahore. Well…I guess now is the time!!
If all goes as planned..I should be in Pakistan by the end of December for a little under a week. Mostly in Islamabad, but for a day or two in Lahore. And I want to experience the country and the cities..Like a Pakistani does. I dont want to be the wide eyed tourist who gawks at desi clothes or swiftly pulls out hand sanitizer if someone ten blocks down sneezes.
So you job here is to tell me everything!! In little under a week…what all can I do in Pakistan?
where all should i eat? all kinds of food..! and inexpensive.
what all should i see? history, culture, art…u name it!
and most importantly where all should i shop! I’m looking at picking up mostly some wedding-y stuff..a Gharara and some suits etc…but again..Good stuff but not expensive…(it would be nice if you could give the names and addresses of shops along with how much stuff costs on an average)
Anything else that I have missed out on that you think i should do/see/wear/smell/eat!!
Unfortunately you have posted in wrong section but i hope MODs will move your thread to some suitable section where you will get all the information.
Anyhow welcome
*****Well...initially i thought i'd post this in some other section...but this post isnt about shopping or food or culture..its about anything and everything..plus this section has just about any random thing under the sun..so why not?
Hi, welcome to the forums.....i am from lahore so i'll tell u what u can visit in lahore. (just a suggestion try to spare more days for lahore as islamabad doesnot have much to offer its more of a quiet place)
1. where all should i eat? all kinds of food..! and inexpensive.
food street in gowalmandi, anarkali, chinese restuarants in gulberg, mm alam road, food at fortress stadium, dhaba food so thats basically anywhere u see food stalls by the road (these stalls might not be exotic looking but the food is just tooo delicious), gol gappay (as call it paani puri in india), dont forget to drink pure anar juice, bundo khan (this is a restuarnt their kababs are way too good and their club sandwiches are just 10/10)...also in desert try fortress's iceburg icecream parlour-fortress is a place in lahore where u have food shops, clothe shops..
2. what all should i see? history, culture, art...u name it!
if u were going to pak on 14th aug i would have told u to visit mall and neher (canal bank) as its just toooo mcuh fun on this day. well its not aug at the moment so i'll say go to minar-e-pakistan, baadshahi masjid, racecourse park, baaghe-jinha (lawrence garden), gulshan iqbal park, shalimar gardens, sheesh mehal (mirror castle), wagah border, lahore museum,
3. and most importantly where all should i shop! I'm looking at picking up mostly some wedding-y stuff..a Gharara and some suits etc...but again..Good stuff but not expensive...(it would be nice if you could give the names and addresses of shops along with how much stuff costs on an average)d
you could get your clothes made aswell but as u said u only have limited time so the best would be to buy readymade ones. for inexpensive clothing visit fortress stadium, anarkali, ichra bazaar (someone with more knowledge on clothes can give u a guide).
