Strikes and closed roads have become a part of life, every where in Pakistan, these days. Blame the government that does not pay attention to its people at all, or politicians who have nothing to do but to blame the government and ask for result-less strikes. If more than 80% people ask for something, then Government must accept that voice and respond to it even if it is diplomatically difficult and not realistic, and even if the government is formed by army and power and does not pay a damn to its people. Otherwise we have enough politicians who can go for strikes and make lives (more) miserable for the norm, just to get cheap publicity and claim false public support.
A 30 minute distance in Lahore takes almost 2 hours from last 2-3 days. And that is only possible because no VIP was traveling in Lahore. Most retail outlets are closed as well as business dealing in not-very-common items. So Like many others, I am lost in Pakistan these days and can’t find roads and locations.
Neither discouraging dedicated and hard-working politicians by this statement nor supporting the government, but is strike the only way to protest against something??? Are there other practical alternatives that can be used to protest, while indicating your popularity in public…
^^^ we are stuck in last century pre partition strikes custom. oppsition create such scenes just to show they can do this and burn the streets and buildings of our beloved motherland!! all in the name of show!!
i can understand you agony, its parts and parcel of any capital city of Pakistan which is not quite right. but hey who to blame??
people?
education?
un employment?
or the organisers??
^ Don't know myself...but the factors you listed, all contribute to the success of such dramas...
Many people believed that if politicians have other ways to express their sorrows and worries i.e. convey their message to broad audience, then we'll face very few strikes. But now with almost 20+ news channels around, and most politicians addressing 2-3 hours (daily) on them, strikes are still out there. We need more TVs perhaps.....
^
but it has more to do with democratic values that r lost in muslim world coz nobody wants to see democracy in these countries and most of the country heads including pakistan are US stooges.
^ May be, but if we assume that country heads are US stooges, then same applies to people who call strikes, make protests,.... They can be said (emerging & alternative) US stooges.
