Losing weight and gaining it all back

Has anyone here ever lost a substantial amount of weight and then gained it all back (non-pregnancy related)?

I came across pics/articles of Carnie Wilson (google her if you don’t know). She was always overweight/obese had gastric bypass in 1999 and eventually gained all the weight back that she lost and then some…I also know of several people who have lost alot of weight but end up gaining it back and then some…

For those of you who tried to lose weight, was this ever a fear or concern? Did it ever happen to you?

Re: Losing weight and gaining it all back

I think that one reason might be that people tend to look for quick fixes...like weight loss pills.....or they implement whatever strategy (exercising, reducing fat in their diets, etc) only up until they've met their goal.......and then they stop. So that strategy is treated more like a temporary thing as opposed to making it a healthy life-long habit. For example....instead of making eating healthy/exercsing part of your lifestyle (something you do regularly).....it's discontinued after a certain point.

Genetics can play a role...some people have higher metabolisms. But what I've noticed is that those who maintain their figures...try to keep up a routine even after reaching their goals.

A few years ago, I would go jogging several times a week....and lift weights/do crunches.....I ate sweets moderation and included more fruits and veggies in my diet....and I liked how toned I was and my skin was nice and clear as well. Then I got lazy....so I lost that overall toned look. Now, I'm trying to get back into the routine of exercising regularly and eating more healthy....but i'd like for it to become more of a habit than something temporary. It's tough...but I think that's a common reason.

This!

I feel once you start gymming you can't stop it because your body gets use to of excercise as its way of keeping fit. So most people go for quick fixes n losoe all the extra weight in weeks/mnths n then stop which is not the right thing for the body or the overall health.

Re: Losing weight and gaining it all back

I have done it a few times. One time i intentionally lost about 15 lbs by weight watchers, got to about 140 and i dont know what happened after that and i gained it back. The next time i worked out like crazy, watched my calories like a hawk and still went down to about 139/140. Everyone said i looked great. Of course in a year, i had gained it all back plus some more. The next year, i quit my job and stayed home for 6 months. gained alot of weight again. Eventually lost it when i moved in with my parents again, just by eating normal, homemade food and none of the sitting on the couch all day/eating junk phase. From then on, i was pretty consistent till i got married when i relaxed and ballooned up again :bummer: so yeah its the story of my life.

yes, happens to me all the time, even though I promise myself its a lifestyle cahnge and not a diet etc. etc and allow myself controlled indulgences, I just get tired of eating a little bit of dessert /sweets and start wanting more and more and gain it all back plus more. Sigh!!
