Losing custody of your children

In the last couple of years, I’ve received at least 4 emails about muslims families who are about to lose custody of their children and are looking for muslim foster homes to adopt their children.

I’m a little, actually, very concerned thinking of the plight of these parents. WHat must they feel to not be able to have and raise their children any more. I know one of those families were abusive towards their kids. There were many reported incidents of child beatings, negligence, falling from stairs, and one death. In such a case I understand that the parents pose a threat to their children, that perhaps they are mentally unstable or incapable of giving love and care so perhaps a more stable family can indeed provide better care.

What are some other reasons this could happen?

Can anyone adopt??

Re: Losing custody of your children

hmm financial problems can be the reason too…
my friend adopted a girl from her friend who already had three children n said i wouldnt be able to raise the baby…coz she wanted to give proper education etc to her three kids…that baby is 10yrs old now and mashaAllah a lovely bright child…
but yes its hard to give your own child to someone else :bummer:

Re: Losing custody of your children

I can't imagine giving my kid away, how horrible.

Re: Losing custody of your children

nightmarish.

i know someone who split up her twins because the marriage fell apart. the daughter was adopted by someone in the family who didn't have any children; the paternal grandmother kept the son. i found that so sad.

Re: Losing custody of your children

^ do the twins see each other? Separating twins is pure evil, IMHO :(

I am often in contact with DSS related to my job n it's always sad o hear how some foster parents are in it for money that sometimes its better to leave the children with parents than take them out..their priorities are physical n sexual abuse to separate the child otherwise they end up staying due to budget cuts etc!!! What I found sad was this story about 13 and 14 year old pregnant sisters( by their step father) who had to stay in a room with no access to water or food at the foster parent's house and one of them had the miscarriage I front of the other Ayer in that room while she couldn't even call the 911... We have no idea what happened later but it just makes me feel sad for the children more so than the parents. :-(

Re: Losing custody of your children

I think I got an email about the same family.

I understand exactly what you mean Nikki.
I was told that we can become a registered family with DHFYS and then are possible candidates to take such children in.
