When I was out in the desert with my new, old buddy Ralph Gilles, we started shooting the breeze about matte paint jobs. Photo-ninja Drew Phillips had driven out to shoot the SRT Viper TA event, and had grabbed the keys to our matte gray Hyundai Veloster Turbo for the journey. Pointing to the Veloster, Gilles asked what we thought about matte paint in general, to which Drew promptly responded, “I think it’s a fad.” Nice work, Drew.
Thankfully for the future of Autoblog reviewing SRT products, I told my old pal Ralph that I thought matte paint was pretty cool. I didn’t know it at the time, but I guess I scored pretty big with the SRT CEO right about then.
We didn’t know it then (well, I didn’t), but SRT had already cooked up this Anodized Carbon Special Edition Package for the 2014 Viper GTS at the time, complete with its “metallic matte” bodywork.
Apart from the paint, which Ralph and I both go in for, the special edition Viper comes with five-spoke “Rattler” wheels, gloss black badges, and a satin black finish on the exhaust bezel. The interior you’ll find to be blacker than the Earl of Hell’s waistcoat, with the exception of some tasteful orange accent stitching (as seen on the Viper TA). Nappa leather, Alcantara and carbon fiber abound inside the car, as well.
